Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

resume linkedin profile

With all the RTO news and I want to start prepare for the worst, realize I need to get an "outside" resume done and a up to date LinkedIn profile. Anyone have recommendations on a reputable company that does this. Did the whole internet search, but not sure which one to use

Yes, i'm capable of writing my resume. Here are skills obtained from the rapidly evolving telecommunications industry:

Management of dial-up modem pool to insure optimal experience for AOL customers.

Provisioning and maintenance of voice lines and fax machines to insure timely delivery of internal corporate communications.

Archival and storage of casette tapes from answering machines. Timestamps and subjects are managed through Microsoft Access. Devised Microsoft SQL queries for which inventory provided through printed documents and sent, overnight, through the US postal system.

Previous role of managing the yellow pages, a directory of people and businesses, to provide our customers a centralized way to communicate opportunities. This list published yearly and delivered to our customer's doorstep.

I'd strongly recommend that if anyone uses ChatGPT, or any other AI content service, that they then follow-up with a very close and robust edit.

ChatGPT reads like it was written by a machine, and it often uses excessively flowery adjectives, and tends to insert non-nutritive filler to your content. This is a ki-ler for resumes, where achievement and actual measurable data is more important than florid prose and a lot of clever bloviating.

Put together an outline of your resume, run it through ChatGPT, then revise it a lot.

Trust me on this. Saying you've increased productivity by 15% is a lot more impactful than writing "crucial to the successful increase of productivity resulting from inspirational implementation of critical strategy"

" It's an interesting tip, but can't you write it yourself? It was just in the news a couple of weeks ago, that employers have very quickly figured out people are using AI to cheat their systems, and automatically reject anyone suspected of doing so. They probably use AI to identify AI generated content;) Better continue to be an actual human, I have a feeling it might become the most desired quality in today's world. "

I wrote the quoted post.

I think you're correct but I think everyone will rely on a blend of AI use with extremely specific human detail added.

You'd really need to have a human element for it to be convincing so in the scenario to use the word cloud, it will take a bit of editing your prompt. Probably multiple rounds of inputting and not relying on the first generic response. After multiple rounds, you could have a compelling and human piece that is likely free from errors and hits every requirement from the HR scanners.

From there you tweak it manually for different positions.

If you need professional help, consider Lee Hecht Harrison. Some companies contract with them as part of the severance package to help employees in their transition. They have lots of tips and tricks to get your resume past automated staffing bots and to a real person for review.

ChatGPT is revolutionizing the job application space for us plebs. Especially for cover letters and resumes tailored to the job description and able to bypass the bots.

These companies all use word scrapers to determine if you are worthy of a even consideration of an interview based on the frequency of the words in your resume and cover letter.

Quick tip is to copy the job description page into a "word cloud" creator website to determine the words most frequently used in the description. Then you can ask ChatGPT to write your cover letter to include those words.

Good luck all.

Typically one would do this on their own. Are you completely helpless?

Do you know anyone outside or inside the company that has, or did have your job? Do they have a Linked In profile? Start there for ideas.

Regardless of any outside professional help, will be for you to have your accomplishments in hand (what you've been accountable for and results, which are far more important than activities). I would go as far back as much as you can and get these written down. Before leveraging anyone, you can start on adding these to your LinkedIn if you haven't already.

An extra set of eyes could help with your overall message/brand, but the underlying substance is all in your own hands. You've got this!

BlueSteps is a potential resource, but I would also search LinkedIn for others.
