Again, being on leave doesn't exclude you from downsizing. Nor should it.

I haven't seen or heard of it happening. But it wouldn't surprise me. All the talk of flexibility, welcoming diversity, supporting women etc. is just talk and is not practised in reality. Work from home for a week due to a sick child and you get screwed for not making office days.

Fx did that to me for taking a medical leave couple years ago. Some how I was hired back to the company. I saw it happen to another woman while in that department. She came back from maternity leave and was let go the day she returned.

STOP it, there are enough bad things happening without making stuff up. No one gets laid off because they took maternity leave. Is the timing unfortunately-yes.
If you are on the list, you are on the list. Having a baby does not exempt you.

You all do realize there are two sides to every story right? Just because some poor sap makes some bs claim doesn’t make them victim. Most of the whiners are cr-ppy employees . Not good ones. Hence why they get let go . Let’s be real here smh

They can only hold your job for so long so why are you surprised ? And I doubt it had anything to do with maternity. They just couldn’t touch her until she was officially back so obviously other reasons

I hate the company, but this is not true.

Yeah, had a friend at another company who was let go her first day back from maternity leave. It happens.

Doesn’t feel good and I’m sure sometimes it’s unfair discrimination, but sometimes it’s actually the right call.

In my early days at BNY, there was someone in our dept who was just terrible… insubordinate, mean, nasty, came in when she wanted, you name it. Her boss vowed to finally get rid of said Horrible Employee and, by the time a layoff window came up, the employee had shared they were fighting a serious disease. And that made her untouchable. Despite being the worst employee ever. (She survived and was eventually let go.)

Hard to be a manager in these situations. No path feels totally right.

That meant a decent employee was instead let go.

The women that I knew in this situation were off of the book deals for a year’s maternity leave with the promise of holding their position for a year.
