Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How poor is your skillset?

I don't get it. So much panic among so many of you. How are you so unprepared for the possibility of losing your job? Are you so unemployable that you would rather uproot your entire family for the possibility of still having a job than quit and find something else wherever you are? I don't get it.

Corpus christi tx has no high paying jobs without a degree which is why so many will uproot thier families.

Honestly, it would be suggested to leave T off your resume.

"It’s a numbers game: Cast a wide and large net. If an application does lead to a job, it will most likely take a few months to get there. You can also always decline an offer."

This - I started looking in the spring of 2022 after leaving end of 2021. It took a few months, I declined 2 or 3 jobs before accepting my current job. Start with updating your resume. Keep it to 2 pages. One thing that recruiters and hiring managers don't like are lengthy resumes. Also, if you are worried about your age and discrimination, then don't put your entire history in your resume. Example: If you have been at AT&T for 30 years, and you are applying for positions that require 10 years of experience, don't list out positions from when you started the company, maybe go back 15 years or whatever captures your experience that is applicable to the role of interest.

It can be daunting and depending on the company and role, there can be multiple interviews for a specific role. There are tons of good resources for interviews on Youtube that are worth visiting. Get familiar with the STAR method for interviews.

OR maybe the OP has been in those scenarios? And was able to pick themselves up and get on with life? I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt, albeit their delivery could have been kinder.

I will write my SO left ATT eons ago and has been at six companies since those days (all promotions/raises); I’m still here holding on. She would tell you to start looking now for work; it takes time. A LOT of time. Most job applications on places like indeed and LinkedIn or on corporate or external job sites won’t result in an offer, let alone anything other than a canned response. It’s a numbers game: Cast a wide and large net. If an application does lead to a job, it will most likely take a few months to get there. You can also always decline an offer.

You think as long as you have skill sets, you can easily get another job with comparable pay and benefits? Wait until you reach 60 and ask yourself the same question.

I agree. Sounds like the OP has never been beaten down so hard by life he wonders how he'll recover or pay bills, have enough money for food, etc.

This is how people with a superiority complex display fear and stress. "I'm fine, the rest of you are fu---d. If you were as amazing at life as I am you'd be completely fine, always. Suckers."

I'd put money that the OP is in IT because I've seen people like this in my career many times over the last 20+ years. It definitely seems to attract the people who "have it all figured out".

Spoken like someone who has never been punched in the face by life and incorrectly thinks that their universe is under their control. What were you trying to accomplish by posting this, I wonder?

Uproot family? For some it may be as simple as the employee relocates for just 1 year to meet a specific target for their pension contribution to reach a specific threshold. Again, there are many different pensions. Like the other poster said, everyone’s situation is unique.

Yes: they are. Most people at this company are unmotivated, scared, or p!kers. Not go-getters. They probably don’t even have LinkedIn profiles or if they do they have 5 connections. These are the same people who think gen z are millennials still use words like woke and snowflake that are 5 years expired from our cultural zeitgeist and lexicon. They’re from another century. They’re boomers. Irrelevant. So they should be afraid. Their work ethic and mentality are from another era.

Everyone’s situation is unique to themselves. Worry about yourself.

It’s not something you need to “get”.
