Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Rug pulled out from under me

I know I'm just one small story here to add, but I figured I'd share anyway. I got hit by the tech layoffs last year, and I came aboard early this year. Started to see this as a company I could be at long term, with several different growth opportunities and a badass team.

Then this news hit. My family is in the middle of a move out of state, nowhere near a Schwab office, but I figured we'd be completely fine since I was fully remote.

Now I may need to jump right back into the job hunt again for the second time in a year. I'm really, really tired of companies treating its people like expendable little workhorses and making so many promises, then breaking them in a moment's notice and acting all confused when we get pi---d as he-l. The job I was let go from last year swore up and down that I and my team were untouchable, then let us all go anyway when profits took a dive while still hiring sales people like crazy.

Rant over. Hope we can make our voices loud enough to get leaders to consider walking this back. We're all just trying to live our lives here, da---t.

I think you will fall under their exception as I believe people who moved too far away from office can submit the exception to remain working from home. You have until 6/30th to submit. I hope you get approved. Don’t see why not.

Exceptions filed - but as usual, MD level approval required and I'm sure they are on board with the EC and just giving us all the finger... Our MD loves to be in the office even though he's by himself and everyone else is located out of state...stupid...

I’ll add my story as well. I received full support and encouragement to return to my home state to be with my friends (and for my boyfriend to return to his friends/family). While Im signing a lease and in the middle of moving, I received the email as well. Now my managing director and directors are offering no support other than recognizing my ‘situation’ and that it pre-dated the policy. I cannot obtain a yes or no answer regarding my future tenure (I.e. will my exemption be approved? What is the likelihood? Etc).

Im devastated because I left a firm with top tier clients that I worked with directly and I was in line for a promotion but my team at Schwab is incredible and the flexibility was unbeatable. I could have left to another company and gotten one he-l of a pay increase but I would have never touched the flexibility that Schwab was offering at a company this size without luck. I just want the executive council to understand that people have family, friends, and personal commitments. We want to make it work but there HAS to be sufficient time to allow for apartment leases to complete or for our spouse/partners to find another job. So many things. Very cruel.
