Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Townes Org - 5 days a week in the office

Just heard on VP town hall call. All of Chad Townes organization (SVP, AT&T Business - Customer Service & Operations) will get their notifications no later than June 30th with expectation of 5 days in the office per week at Webphone location. The corporate policy of 3-5 flexible for the FTO designation is being thrown out the door. Zero virtual worker approvals for any department under his lead. All management employees, regardless or level, will be mandated 5 days a week.

Seems like this thing is changing by the minute and everyone is running for their lives. Quiet quitting is definitely becoming a reality in my future work model. If you want your cake, I’m definitely going to make you eat it.

Update. It’s now six days a week due to the whining on this post. Do you wanna go for seven?

You are like little froggies, cooking in an oven. Temps will slowly rise and you won’t notice till it’s too late.

Not enough people quitting. They need to raise the bar.

They’re doing this so you don’t get a severance. You will be one of a small group who get a package if you do.

Nothing flexible about what said VP (Omer) communicated on Wednesday. Another blanket communication with cloaked messages apparently. If they could just be open and honest about what they know and don’t know when communicating, it would make all the difference. “Chad’s expectation is that everyone in his organization is expected in the office 5 days a week” sure sounds like a mandate to me. It’s not right to communicate that and then have AVP’s, Directors, AM’s and AD’s backpedal with if, and, but or only if during individual team sessions.

Or maybe it’s downvoted by someone who does not want the truth getting out. Kinda sad that lots of us are constantly checking this damn site to try to get some morsel of information regarding our employment status. It has been nothing but chaos and confusion since the 5/16 letter. To those in the know who post - thank you!

This website is stupid…people down vote posts because they don’t like the answer they got?

This information is both true and false. The Townes organization will be asked to report to the office 5 days a week. That part is true. However, it is within reason. Appointments, commitments, illness, and other life events that occasionally require a manager to work from home are okay. Most of the leadership team is sensitive to the situation and understands this is a new change for many, or a return to the old “normal” for others. Unfortunately, some AVPs and even Directors have gone rogue and taken it upon themselves to get ahead of the game to make their respective business unit look good in an act of self-preservation. There has also been a tremendous amount of snitching and animosity between different AVP BUs because the messages have been unclear. Some teams have already been asked to return to the office five days a week for a minimum of eight hours a day, others are able to work three days with no hour restrictions, etc. This has put some AVPs in a less than desirable position and forced their hand.

Continue doing what your leadership team directs you to do. If you’ve been told to report five days a week, do it. If you’ve been told minimum of three, do it. Do not assume that because a Director or AVP communicates a message to their respective teams that it applies to yours. A blanket message that all members of the Townes organization need to report five days a week covers thousands of employees. This will be communicated in a formal way when that time comes.

People are seeking attention and trying to stir the pot out of anger, frustration, stress, and jealousy. Don’t allow the company to create an environment where weturn on one another. Do what you’re told and stay off the radar for as long as you can.

Rumor is that the number of “sub-core” or “spoke” centers has greatly increased since it was first visited by leadership. That is good news for the organization and should help some - not all - impacted by RTO to stay on-board. It is important to note that the timing I’ve seen on these boards is not accurate. Employees who will be asked to relocate due to not being in any proximity to an organizational office will be notified very soon. That is a factual statement. The rest who are waiting for a “letter” (not mailed btw - delivered electronically in a way that can be documented) that tells them where and when to report could be waiting several months.

Which core or hub is dedicated for Townes? There is a lot of off shores in his org, so what is the point to lock managers 5 days in stinky cubicles?

Give them 3 and they’ll take 5 down the road claiming in office work is really benefiting the masses! The company is looking better!

“ I’m in his org. I have been virtual for the last 15 years, as is a lot of his team. Townhall today literally just said this out of the side of her mouth.”

Yup. Every single communication we’ de received has said three days.

Tons of folks listed as TW in Townes org before last year, but he mandated FOW last year for much of his org and now it will be FTO with mandated 5 days in office.

Was anyone virtual in his org prior to covid? If not, this tracks. At least he’s not forcing to a hub.

Everyone knows collaboration is a made up term and no one at this company uses it.

This is how it begins. Each organization will try to out do the next so they can be the favorite.

They will push for 5 days in every org. That’s the whole reason the policy states 3-5.

If their stance is “we need in person collaboration to be successful “, what’s better than 3 days in person?

5!!

No mention about relocation at all. No mention about any surplus activity. Just barfed the same RTO comm and FAQ as before.

They mention the surplus? Did they say anything about how many might be asked to relocate as part of RTO?
