Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I'm so looking forward to collaboration

I know my colleagues will caringly and frequently share with me all they know about our shared work tasks, once I can look them in the eyes in person. Collaboration will make me not only a better worker, but a better person. It should also help me with my road rage issues as I commute 2 hours a day to collaborate. Ahh, life is going to be much better for all of us soon. Here, try a big glass of this delicious cold kool-aid. It's good, and good for you too!

I just collaborated with a porcelain throne. If you're in Middletown Building A, stay out of the bathroom on second floor next to the elevator for a few hours.

I’ve been using my personal phone for work calls for more than three years. None of the drop in desks have phones, not even the few private offices we have available. You can’t give me a desk OR a phone?

Well, we won’t have to worry about speakerphones. Our landlines are being removed from our desks. Is that a sign? I hope so! Imagine phone company employees with no phone and only that horrible excuse of a system Microsoft teams.

"the random loitering and gang gab sessions while I'm trying to work two steps away."

That's what they call "collaborating" and they do that most of the day and think they are working.

Speakerphones are terrible idea for open areas and should be deactivated in work spaces, use your headsets, put the mouthpiece in front of your mouth and close to your lips and speak at normal volumes.

And, the loud talking at full volume is someone trying to get noticed or trying to seem knowledgeable to peers. There are a bunch of those know-nothing blowhards that need to be weeded out and not rewarded with a work from home option (yes, we know your game plan) because they are too loud for normal work environment.

It would amaze people how quiet the space would become if people would just come in and work instead of wasting the day gabbing or trying to impress each other with their imagined vast knowledge....

I would take a dog barking any day. You can close the door or go into another room. Good luck doing either of those things in open concept office space.

And it’s only going to get worse.

My customers are external. Other companies, partners, vendors, some overseas in Sweden and Germany, etc. They aren’t in my building to collaborate so it’s on the phone. All the while, bBob bBig-mouth chatting away at volume a few steps from my microphone.

Insane. This is what we’ve come down to.

The background noise is worsened by people speaking at maximum volume on phone calls, coupled with the open floor plan. I couldn't even talk on my last staff call because the guy at the next work station kept speaking at loud volume every time I unmuted my mic. My team kept asking me why there was so much background noise. Not to mention the random loitering and gang gab sessions while I'm trying to work two steps away. Unfortunately, my job requires intense focus and concentration, and I'm just not getting that environment in the office at all. And no, I will not be confronting my office mates over their loud talking, in turn targeting myself for ridicule and isolation. Thanks.

" The background noise on calls has been unreal. Almost impossible to hear with numerous backgrounds conversations going on as more and more people are in the office. "

Not sure that's any worse than the dogs barking, babies crying, children screaming or arguing with a spouse when WFH, all because they don't know how to use a mute button.

"Time to actually work for your pay. Instead of doing sleeping in and doing personal errands on company time." --@zte+1netcaL5

It's pretty easy to recognize this id--t's posts on every single RTO-related post. Man, dude. You are obsessed and bitter. How many hours a day do you spend rage-envying professionals with roles that can be done remotely? Have you considered a career change or education for a different role where you might be offered that level of trust, flexibility and autonomy? Might want to think about it for the sake of your mental and physical health. Good luck.

Not every job needs to be in the main office, I work in finance and all my partners are spread across the country, we are a comommunications company serving businesses so that they can work from anywhere…this is stupid and just a downsize ..which is fine..just treat people with respect…those who can’t move just move on…it is what it is, the question is how long are we supposed to sit around for some answers, it’s the most irresponsible planning I have ever seen.

Who are the unpleasant people, that say something like this person as an example: "This is so stupid. Grown adults acting like children. You deserve to be let go." ? Are they paid by the company to do this?

The background noise on calls has been unreal. Almost impossible to hear with numerous backgrounds conversations going on as more and more people are in the office. Like you STILL have to communicate with people outside your building. That doesn’t just go away. Open concept chaos.

Have you considered carpooling to the office? This would extend your collaboration opportunities.

Day drinking! Certainly would make everyone have a better attitude!
