Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Feeling underpaid

Our manager does everything to make us feel like we should be grateful that we have a job at all. However, our colleagues who leave say they were able to get better paid offers. I believe that most of us at Intel are paid significantly less than we would be in more stable companies. Or am I wrong?

integrity,
fairness,
avoiding taking credit for other's work,
collaboration and
mutual respect
are key to fostering a healthy and productive work environment. But alas, all 5 key things are lacking under of Nas..im ka..m. Check linkedin under 10 years - a director and principal engineer all in one. While we get laid off someone is syphoning our retirement money...

Why this love-hate relationship with your employer. Can you move? Do you want to move? Are you scared of the unknowns attached to moving to a different company? Most important thing in a lifelong career is not how much money you made but the people you work with, so you can keep your sanity and appreciate the many beautiful experiences and people in life. Intel is known to be cutthroat competitive but not the worst, there are companies far worse than Intel. On the other hand, there still are companies with very good work culture around. Our employers are but a corporate entity - emotional attachment with the company is not conducive to anything.

@Op wtf… you are in charge of your own life and your job is at will employment

I read your post and got sick to stomach realizing how US has slipped out of top ten competitive counties…

See we used to have people that too personal responsibility for their lives and if their situation was rough they either buckled down or got a new job

Instead you whine and feel sorry for yourself. What a sorry way to go through life. No hard feelings, I just feel bad for you and ashamed that a country could come to such demise

I just noticed INTC has a PE Ratio of N/A lol!

The company is in its death throes, why stay?

OP I don't think you're imagining things. If you move to any of the larger companies, the pay is higher. Intel benchmarks itself somewhere in the middle. It doesn't pay the lowest but it certainly doesn't have the best pay. Someone I know was part of the recent layoffs and is now getting paid 20% more at a newly landed position. I guess it also depends on how willing you are to play politics at Intel. Sad but true comment above - regardless of performance, someone else will get paid more and get more visibility because they're someone's buddy.

Don't know where in the world you are but if you're in Ireland you should start looking at the pharmaceutical companies.
I jumped 3 months ago after 13yrs in Intel and started on 20% more here, better Med policy and bonuses, less travel for me and far less sh--e to put up with. You actually just do the job you're hired to do and dont spend half your time creating BS reports to make your Depts indicators green for the sake of it. 👍
There are plenty hiring, and all over the country so can always find one close enough..

The job market isn't as good as it was during Covid but, I was able to find a job offering nearly a 20% raise (not to mention a much higher 401K contribution) in a matter of a few weeks. Intel was a great place to start a career back in the day but, the politics has become so ingrained in to Intel culture, it's impossible to get around if you don't play the games.

Get a move on now while you can. Unfortunately, I have a feeling there will be lots of Intel folks on the market soon enough...

Most of the GL's are promoted from tech positions and subsequently end up managing their previous co-workers. This gives them the opportunity to promote their buddies as well as punish those who they see as less desirable, regardless of performance. As a strong performer, you may still get a promotion down the line but, not before all of his friends have gotten theirs. You'll also change bosses quite often as a tech so, unless one of your buddies becomes GL, you'll start back at the bottom every time. It's a pathetic model and a direct contradiction to every management course I've ever taken.

Then move out. The choice is yours, do it.
