No severance = lawsuits

I don't think you have to worry about severance. There is way too much risk of lawsuits if they decide to go that route.

AT&T is giving severance to those fired. How do I know? I was fired last Tuesday and, in writing, was told I’d get severance.

The federal WARN act specifically says people are entitled to severance based on how many people are let go. And it specifically treats a movement of a job to an unreasonable commute that the employee refuses to make as a termination for non cause and is covered by the WARN act. Google it and you'll get specifics.
Many states expand on the federal law so also check your specific state.

@mab - you are right about the NJ specific law, just enacted a few month ago, but… the wording says it is an expansion of the WARN act and it appears T was able to get around classifying whatever this is as a ‘mass layoff’ or ‘mass move’. So seems like a gray area as to whether that would apply here.
But as it is, it seems they are following the current policy (which actually pays out a bit more, one ‘positive’ I guess)

Thise are bebegits and can be termunated anytime.
Fot a pension plan through a process called "plan termination." There are two ways an employer can terminate its pension plan. The employer can end the plan in a standard termination but only after showing
that the plan has enough money to pay all benefits owed to participants to date.
For severance only require 90 days notice to all particioants, can change or even cancel your severance amount if you do not have a contract detailing how your severance package is calculated. If you do not have an agreement, you employer has full discretion to determine how much to offer, to change the offer, or to simply not offer a severance package.

That is it! Consider yourself lucky.

Honestly people, at least ask chatGPT before stating something as fact …severance is NOT AN EMPLOYMENT LAW .
However, T has a long-standing policy/agreement on it, and they are following it.
So sure, you can “sue” for anything- why would you win?

It disgusting the way they are treating their workforce, but not illegal. At least Elon was clear and didn’t flip-flop like a fish out of water out of fear when he got pushback. He was confident, did his research first , and knew what risks he was taking.
