Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Mediocre

I think we can all agree that the bank has terrible leadership. I think we can all agree that the bank doesn’t take advantage of the skilled and experience staff that it has/had.

Now let me tell you what we disagree about or don’t talk about on here.

Mediocre white men and greedy white men have ruined the bank.

Trying to obtain cheap labor in India and other Asian countries has results in huge gaps in knowledge, speed to resolve issues, poor communication, and low morale.

In my last year at the bank all we heard about was agile, service now, and decommissioning Wanda system.

I studied agile and most of what WF was doing went against the agile mindset. It went against the 4 values and 12 principles. First agile can’t be used for every type of project and shouldn’t be. They did not promote a safe environment where employees could express themselves without fear of retribution. They valued tools (service now) over individuals. Why didn’t they use Microsoft teams to track and manage projects. Why did we only use it to send instant messages and set up meetings?why did we have kanban meetings for project managers/coordinators and not cross functional teams? These kanban daily scrums were just status updates. Agile would say they are anti-agile. Of course the person that ran the meetings should know that kanban meetings should be for cross function teams and are not status meetings. They just didn’t care because they had a job. They knew what they were doing was wrong. While it is best that people sit together it is not necessary if you have tools in place for remote share sharing, instant messages, etc.

Saul saw collocated and went overboard with it.

DEI isn’t responsible for you losing your job. It isn’t woke that cause you to lose your job. I know many people of different races (male and female) that have lost their jobs and they were damn good at what they did.

Again it’s the mediocre white men that can convince the board they know what they talking about but they can’t convince the people that have been in IT for years the Asians overseas aren’t going to challenge anything. They are going to continue to be exploited.

Mediocre and greedy white men. That’s where your anger should be.

I agree with OP in that we’re agile in name only. I especially think how we’re now in the output of RCSA and compare that to value #2. We’re now expected to deliver documentation on (mostly) working systems spontaneously.

Have to say though, I think OP could have just stopped at “Management” and gotten the point across. The decisions being made are not helping the bank get out of the mess that it’s in, nor is it helping morale.

Hey @OP+1ngZSo1f and @2vbz+1ngZSo1f. Could you explain [asians...] They are going to continue to be exploited. How are asians are exploited?
Having WF management force them to understand Western banking processes?
By the way here are the the 4 values and 12 principles of agile?
The Agile Manifesto outlines the four values and twelve principles of Agile development. They are as follows:

Four Values of Agile:

  1. Individuals and Interactions over Processes and Tools: Emphasizes the importance of effective communication and collaboration among team members rather than relying solely on tools or processes.
  2. Working Software over Comprehensive Documentation: Prioritizes the delivery of functional software that provides value to the customer over extensive documentation.
  3. Customer Collaboration over Contract Negotiation: Encourages active involvement and collaboration with the customer throughout the development process to ensure that the end product meets their needs.
  4. Responding to Change over Following a Plan: Recognizes that change is inevitable and values the ability to adapt and respond to changing requirements and circumstances.

Twelve Principles of Agile:

  1. Customer satisfaction through early and continuous delivery of valuable software.
  2. Welcome changing requirements, even late in development. Agile processes harness change for the customer's competitive advantage.
  3. Deliver working software frequently, with a preference for shorter timescales.
  4. Business people and developers must work together daily throughout the project.
  5. Build projects around motivated individuals. Give them the environment and support they need and trust them to get the job done.
  6. The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation.
  7. Working software is the primary measure of progress.
  8. Agile processes promote sustainable development. The sponsors, developers, and users should be able to maintain a constant pace indefinitely.
  9. Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design enhances agility.
  10. Simplicity—the art of maximizing the amount of work not done—is essential.
  11. The best architectures, requirements, and designs emerge from self-organizing teams.
  12. At regular intervals, the team reflects on how to become more effective, then tunes and adjusts its behavior accordingly.

These values and principles serve as the foundation for Agile methodologies, guiding teams in delivering high-quality software while embracing flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

I have edited/reposted this at https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1niVlXU7. I tried to keep it to the original as best as I could (with ChatGPT's help...)

I wrote this post to bait some of you and prove my point to another coworker. Some you are so full of hypocrisy. You hide your racism behind the terms woke and DEI.

I am a white man. It very funny to me that someone wrote “if a white man wrote this”. Stop being victims.

People talking about “why bring race and gender into it” but there’s a racist DEI post or “woke” post every other day in here. I have rarely seen people shut down those post.

But carry on.

Word choice and phrasing matters when garnering support for one's own opinions. Agree with the comments about choosing tools over individuals. The toxicity overall of the message will leave you in the corner alone.

Try to be above it all next time, more will really listen and take you seriously.

How about just "Mediocre and greedy men or executives"...why bring race and gender into it? If a white man did/posted this - he'd be hunted down and dealt with...just stop. Get your point across without being so inflammatory to an entire race or gender!
