Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any updates for Legg’s org?

We are completely in the dark. 6/22 came and passed and nothing was shared or communicated.

Yes, they are being released today, if your manager is in.

There will be still possibility to request it through the dedicated portal - so I am sure people will try to submit it. The portal will be not shut down after 9/4, but probably they will change level (from L3 to L5?) for approvals and many many many requests will be rejected after weeks of waiting (of course xVPs would be very busy).

I'm OP on "Or, maybe they're still fighting to keep a few people fully virtual."

It's a remote (pun intended) possibility, but I don't really believe it. I do know it ain't me, manager asked for it and was told no.

I'd hate to be one of a chosen few who would be real outsiders. "How'd you swing that? You related to Legg or something?" No thanks.

Anyway, RTO is a really just a surplus, the "layoff wolf under RTO sheep's clothing" as put so well by one of our co-workers in a national story.

"Or, maybe they're still fighting to keep a few people fully virtual."

Do you really believe this? This time all requests for FOW and TW are put on hold - until July/10. This time all have to report to any of those core/hubs as the letter will say in 6/30. Next 10 days there will be a lot of 1/1s and then, based on "company expectations" you could ask for FOW or TW, but you will know then if there is any chance to get it based on 1/1.

RTO is a different initiative from yesterday’s surplus.

My supervisor released the letters 40 min ago but I haven’t gotten it yet (Legg org). Other supervisors are setting up 1x1. I heard one group is waiting till Monday to release them. Every AD is different!

“Employees … begin living”

It’s hard to believe this choice of words was selected and also approved.

06/22 was distributed as a date from my manager but I rechecked the How-and-Where site and found

𝘼 𝙛𝙚𝙬 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙
𝗕𝘆 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟯𝟬:: Business units will communicate details to their organizations.
𝗕𝘆 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭𝟬:: Employees in Dallas and Atlanta begin living by their designations.
𝗕𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝟱:: Employees in our other 7 metro areas begin living their designations.

I think our VP was told 06/22 by someone higher in Legg org but then they decided to put some distance between surplus and RTO notices. Or, maybe they're still fighting to keep a few people fully virtual. Whatever the case—and to miss a milestone for such a fundamental issue is not very professional—we all should know by the 30th. Or not. Who knows?

In their notice "𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠" (or "𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠" [sic]) is something of a Freudian slip, in that they acknowledge the effect this will have on lives. it's an admission that they don't prioritize hard work, performance (even when awarded by Connection awards), or the extra hours only a remote worker can put it (who's at the office at midnight?). They need to look over your shoulder. Call you on the carpet on demand, and make sure they can see you across the room—a Teams message or chat, cant' trust those. ("I hate Teams" is something Legg said once on a hot mic)

These people making millions with private offices, live wherever they want (is Legg moving to be near his boss? No?), corporate jets (problem solved!), and they have dedicated staffs catering to their every whim. Open office privacy, tools (anyone in office using more than 2 monitors?), even furniture (not taking a $600 steelcase chair or power-adjustable standing desk to an open office), lost time and money in commutes are not issues to these people.

But who am I kidding in the previous paragraph? RTO is surplus in disguise, a move to slash costs because they can't make the FCF numbers and the market punished them for it. They need a new story, a new promise that good times are around the corner. And maybe they are, who knows? A flat price for wireless, fat government contracts for first responders, and a profitable deal with a satellite provider may work, but given the track record of current leadership, I'm not keeping anything invested in T.

Not sure how they keep their jobs when every quarter is an apology for a dropping share price, but apparently our board is Charlie Brown and Stankey is Lucy holding the football.

RTW letters have been made available to supervisors to share by end of the month (Leggs org)

Yep surplus was announced yesterday for Leggs org.

RTO letters should be released to supervisors today for most groups, supervisors will choose when to share it to you. They haven't been shared yet though.

Yesterday you should have received an email from someone in your org sounding the all clear for the 6/22 surplus. If you heard nothing yesterday you escaped the surplus. Next is the RTO info which you can expect by the end of the month. After that, the never ending surplus cycle resumes.

It depends on an age profile and automation opportunities within org. Also we should take into account available $$$ for sev. packages "elastically distributed through appropriate time period".

RTO notifications will start going once the severance updates complete their final review.
