Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I feel for all of you

I went out on August 22. I had 38 years so I was able to retire, but the feeling was the same. Betrayal, grief, fear. I survived 8 headcount reductions in my career but knew this one would be different. After the cut, I was very active with Right Management, with both coaching and events (to support other ford peeps). At the end of the day, many people were placed in new jobs with smaller companies and are pretty happy. Some went to GM and are thankful, but the environment is the same. I ended up with a new job at a very small company and I am thrilled. I am making more money (I also admit I have a pension too). My biggest piece of advice for everyone is to have a "super power". Most Ford employees are generalists and this can make it hard to find a new job. Figure out what you are good at and how to convey that talent to a recruiter.
Good luck, and God bless.

I think companies should implement 30 - 35 and out - this is why many of these companies are struggling - let the younger generations make it to 30 years!!

Even if you survive this one, there is another one around the corner. I am wondering how much longer I can physically put my body through the stress and anxiety. I know no where is safe but seriously, there has to be a way to work and not worry about layoffs 2-3 a year every year.

I meant no disrespect for OP, I just can't imagine staying a day after I'm financially able to retire.

If he started at Ford right out of school that puts him at only 59-60, I'd still want to put in at least a few more years as well if I were in those shoes.

Your point about having 38 yrs is somehow crazy? OP could have started at 20-24yrs old. That would have made him 58-62. Are you set to retire younger than that?
