Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Last week lots of coworkers posted on LinkedIn celebrating the company's 120 year history. Why?!?

Who in their right mind would be proud to work for this company? All this company does is pander to the political wind of the day, sc--w their customers, dealers, vendors, and employees, and act like they are high and mighty because they have been around 12 decades.

In reality, the lack of focus on building quality cars and trucks is ki-ling this company. They are destroying any brand loyalty with the way they treat customers and employees. And they are even screwing it up for dealers and vendors.

At this rate, layoffs are merciful. It's like putting passengers into lifeboats of a sinking ship. And those that stay aboard will go down with it.

As an employee reaching retirement age, I recently read that the pension program is currently underfunded but $12 billion!! So now I'm questioning if that will even be there when I need it.

Someone posted a thread entitled F Ford. There is a lot of that sentiment going in the now. Apparently a few Kool aid drinkers still think that this company is something to be proud of? I don't get it.

@qtm+1njcyR9U Did you read the year pension report that was mailed to your house? It clearly showed a 2 billion dollar short fall. You gotta read the fine print and understand the numbers. Then you have to understand where the pension is “invested”

On the pension plan, at the end of 2019 it was underfunded by $6.2 billion.

It's hard to find this info, probably Ford burying it.

Can you share the info about pensions being underfunded? It would explain a lot in regards to the Aug 22 cuts.

Linked In is a public place to earn brownie points with current & future employers. When my legal name is out in the open like that you can bet yer bottom dollar that I'll say nothing but positive things about my current (as well as past) employers no matter how misguided, wrong or even downright evil I think they may be.

You may not like Ford, but there are lots of reasons that lots of other people do.

  1. The Bronco, Mustang, Maverick, Lightening, and Raptor offerings excite a lot of people.
  2. Given Ford's history in F1, NASCAR, Indy, and WRC, Ford has some of the most motorsport victories in major competitions of any automotive brand in history.
  3. The brand's been ubiquitous for so long that almost everyone in the US has a handful or more of good memories that they associate with some Ford vehicle or another.
  4. Lots of people enjoy their job working at Ford. It's just unrealistic to think that all 28,000 or however many North American salaried employees are having a bad time.

People will think I'm a shill for this post because people on this site are upset, but I'm not telling you to love Ford, I'm just trying to explain why other people might .

I've never seen any reports about pension underfunding. They have to provide information each year and situation has looked correct

Human nature. No one wants to believe the company they work for is going in the wrong direction. They want to believe that they are contributing to the greater good. So, they believe what management tells them and they celebrate.

A. Stockholm syndrome

B. Survivorship bias

  1. They're good ol' boys (or girls) / suck ups, thus their jobs will always be protected no matter what.
  1. All of the above.

There is no One Ford or Ford Family any more. It's a gimmick at best. JF is the biggest clown. Botox Ford is drinking the Kool-Aid. The people that will be laid off will definitely be blessed by leaving this toxic environment and will most likely end up in a much better place, whoever is not cut and smart will be working full time looking for a job. The morale is below zero and everyone is disgusted by the leadership team. This company won’t survive 120 weeks under JF and DF.
