It is evident that increase in outsourcing and automation is the future of the company. I wish it wasn't, but it's pretty clear that top dogs would be happy to outsource everything they can. That's why I wonder if there are any positions that can be considered secure, meaning they won't be outsourced so easily in the future?

Most groups could be almost completely eliminated with just a very small in house oversight group. What’s hard to understand is why some groups are already partially outsourced like operations - their outsource company does all the work. Seems like opportunity which could be addressed for corporate expense reduction
Any position below the executives could be outsourced, whether onshore or off. However, that does not mean they are not replaceable. Represented employees are a little trickier, but over time, even that could be accomplished. Anyone who believes their job is secure is delusional.
Anything is security. We pay low so they always need people. Verizon is low on the security pay scale.
I would assume a Csuite support role.
Outsourcing doesn’t just mean offshore. They could outsource my whole only can do the job in america group to a vendor today.
Doesn’t matter if the department is mandated by legal that it cannot be offshored (such as those with direct access to US telephone switches). The department can still lay people off if it is forced to shrink.
We interface with one such group and they have had 3 layoffs in the past 5 years. First two were back to back, taking 3 people each time. Most recent one took 5. So, a third of the team has involuntarily turned over in 5 years. “Safe” is not a word I would use.
Global clearances. Indians can’t sign off on global clearances to send work/jobs to their home country. It would be a conflict of interest. Plus they need American scapegoats if/when the US government finds all the unmasked raw sensitive data we sent over to India.
The guy who takes Hans dog out for a walk every evening. They call him the Hans whif-erer.
