Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Will Tuesday be just as bad?

I'm up at 3 a.m. stressing over this so I'm not even sure if I should say "will today or "will tomorrow" be just as bad. Usually, if the layoffs last more than one day, the brunt of it happens on the first day and it's mostly getting to the people they were not able to notify on the second day. Is it going to be the same this time or will this be one of those times when the second day is just as bad?

To the folks who claim that if you work hard you shouldn’t have to worry… I speculate that you either don’t work for Ford or you didn’t have exposure to people who were let go in the last few layoffs. The last two layoffs included many who were hard working, well respected and talented. I personally know a few who frequently got TAs but were still let go (I was in a position to know performance review results). People are sweating now because they have seen that being a model employee may not save you and may even put a bigger target on your back because your good reviews resulted in a salary that is higher than average. Saying that people who are worried must be doing something wrong sounds like victim blaming.

Exactly @vix+1nkA25Cl. In 2019 they cut all the technical specialist LL6 in our area (aka all the ones with deep knowledge who were leading and driving work). Within a few months the best GSRs had all quit- went to work at the companies the fired tech specs were at. Then the promising FCGs quit to go work with the tech specs new companies. Then last year again they cut the 2 best of the remaining team. All of the dead weight remains to this day.

Think about the last round of cuts. Some good workers were let go and some useless ones weren’t. Ford doesn’t know what they are doing- there is a lot of waste, but not where they think it is. Too many people in management making mountains out of molehills without any ability or drive to fix actual issues. If you are laid off- you cannot take it personally! This company is a mess and it doesn’t look like it will improve any time soon. The layoffs are just an effort to temp increase stock prices and calm investors, without Ford addressing the actual problems.
And if laid off- it's likely for the best. Things will only get worse and getting out now is better than staying, doing the work of 3 people, getting ulcers and high blood pressure, only to be let go in 6 months.

The guidelines for how they select employees for termination are not always based on your individual performance. Please see this post from a few years ago: https://www.thelayoff.com/t/YZk9ZpI

All i can say is if you are that worried about being let go then you are doing something wrong.
If you have the skills and can or have the network you can find another job this job at Ford is not the end all be all. if you have no desired skills and have terrible communication skills I don' know what to tell you. I don't think the job market is as bad as the 2008 job market.

If you work hard and do your job efficiently you should not have to worry about getting laid off.

SIRP'ed last year. It is a very stressful time, but for the unfortunate folks this go around don't beat yourself up. This is a situation you can't control and aren't responsible for. Employees are just another number on the balance sheet and this management team has proven to be beyond incompetent.

Best wishes for those affected. I feel bad for those who will be affected and get so mad thinking how this company treats it's employees.

Get out of that sh-t hole. I did. You have no idea what stress and anxiety You’re under working there until you leave. They strive on torturing people with these games they play with layoffs. I guess it makes them feel good doing it to the employees, and it makes them feel like they have power over people.

Who knows, but nothing we do will now will effect the outcome of what either day holds. Best to find some peace in whatever you can in the coming days. If you do make it through, remember this period of anxiety that they put us through. Keep these feelings as a memory so that it motivates you to make a change to leave such an unhealthy relationship. Best of luck to you! You’re not alone in this.
