Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What were the basis for these cuts?

2 other members from Model E software were cut.
they were the literal cornerstones of that team.

They were the best in that team so how and why were they let go?
those 2 alone were responsible for huge improvements on the app.

I don't get what the determination for being laid off is.
did they just raffle a bunch of names took them out and laid them off?

@e-l+1nkglPkj - "He hasn't made a bad call yet and is not starting now".

You are either DF or someone with short memory. Let's remind everyone: DF made the decision on AM radio, then Ford BoD overruled and made a U turn.

I am not reading most of what has been said. They gave me a "chart" of equals who stayed and were let go. No one was equal to me or my education. It was meant to show no discrimination, but apples and oranges?

Doug Field is making the right decisions for Model e, and some of those decisions may be painful for some. But be confident they are what he believes are needed to make Model e successful and profitable. He hasn't made a bad call yet and is not starting now.

It's exactly what one of the commenters below said. It's a number on a spreadsheet. Pension, salary, age. The higher those go, the more costly to Ford. And they have to balance it out so not to get sued like in 2019 when the suit was able to prove tha older employees were targeted.

It's a shame when actual good performers are let go. That type of brain drain is detrimental to any company.

One would think that Ford would understand that. But here we go again...

EV will fail. People are not buying. It's not green... Good luck in your next career... Maybe Big Oil is hiring.

@rlu+1nkglPkj I'm a dev I wouldn't know any of that.
but that doesn't even make sense to lay off the best people in the team anyway?.

So in a low revenue area you fire your best performers? that's business 101?

Too bad they didn't first do a round of voluntary cuts. I believe that could have saved some people who were let go this round.

Model e has much less revenue than expenses. Take a Business 101 course and you might understand.

It's a salary dump. You were a salary (and age so they could offset others) in a spreadsheet.

But they weren't even that old.
1 was 30 the other around 35

Is that considered old?

Is Farley taking a playbook from ocean gate?

It had been very illogical since 2018-2019. This is not new. Same question like yours had been asked numerous times and at many different organizations.

Because these two engineers appear to be your road model, you need to watch out for yourself. Hide your emotion at work. Don't ask and don't tell.

Normally the list is made by some upper-level guys. I really don’t think they would have knowledge on individual performances.

Most of the time they would come up with some formula with YoE, wage, etc as parameters and decide who should be the target. Not likely to be performance-based.

Based on age alone. They need young people to balance the targeted older poeple. I was one of the younger ones 40 years old with 7 years at Ford.

Dont take it peronsal
