Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How likely is it that GM and Ford will merge?

Could a GM and Ford merger be coming soon? If both are struggling with cost savings, they could merge and save more and put more resources on EVs.

@OP. Merges are done to companies that complement each other, even if they have some overlap. The issue is that GM and Ford do not complement each other, but they are a copy of each other. These companies overlap almost completely in markets and product lineups.

The only ace in Ford's lineup is the F-150, and as of now, even that is losing value and customers.

No, a VW "merger of equals" with Ford makes the most sense. They are successful in EU the RoW, and maybe APA; BUT, they can't crack the U.S.

Not 0%...Ford could merge their gas vehicles with GM, and Ford could keep it's name and just sell EV's, and GM can do the same.

Why would GM try this sui-idal move

ZERO chance. Ford family will never give up control of the company. Thats why they never went bankrupt. Only way is Ford buying GM some how.

There is no future for Ford and GM. They are way behind in EV development. And now that those salaried workers who didn't get cut, will start leaving one by one as they find jobs at other companies. The only ones left will be the ones who have no place to go or low level of skills. Therefore, Ford and GM will not be able to survive.

0% chance. Impossible given the historical rivalry (imagine the cognitive dissonance between Ford and Chevy fans) and would get struck down by antitrust laws.

What exactly would be gained for Ford?

GM at least would get re-entry into Europe, a stronger commercial vehicle lineup, the Bronco and the Maverick.

Othwerwise, it's nothing but redundancies.
