Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

It’s All Smoke & Mirrors

Reposting this comment so people can see it. For those getting beat up with annual review, don’t doubt your self worth. EM is what Needs Significant Improvement.

XOM Core Value: Care
XOM Core Value: Integrity
XOM Core Value: Courage
This "system," and many other characteristics of this company, prove that the "core values" are simply nice sounding things to say, but don’t really hold any weight, nor are they to really be followed. The core values are not to be taken literally. Use them when they fit nicely into your scenario, otherwise, ignore them.
Example, trying to shoehorn care and integrity in the PDS system is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. You just can’t do it. Does anyone in the company really have the ability to go through the mental gymnastics that lands you at the conclusion that the system does not violate these principles?
I was like a lot of you in that I sailed for a decade+ with decent to great rankings. Nothing to get too worked up about, until I got pipped. After the heart, soul, and effort that I put into this company during that cycle was met with an NI, I was devastated. Zero care from management/supervisors. They become inured to they system. They have to, otherwise they could not live with themselves. They justify it with their paycheck. Getting that check means they “have to do things I don’t necessarily agree with.”
Well, it’s more than that. You are a tool for the corporation to propagate a system that flagrantly violates the principles of Care and Integrity.
If the foundational system for which humans are managed in the system is in direct contradiction to espoused corporate “core values,” do you not think the company will ignore those values in other aspects of the business? Well let me assure you that the answer is “yes,” they will, and they do.
Now, let’s talk about courage. If you are “courageous” enough to highlight the obvious flaws in the system, the system will take you down. Therefore, by courageous, they really mean, be submissive and conform at all costs to the system, or you will be punished.
Yet another core value that is to be applied only in just the right scenarios.
For those of you who say, “wElL lEaVe iF yOu DoN’t LiKe iT,” rest assured, we who don’t like it are all working on it. To you we say, please don’t follow us. Stay here and continue to live your deluded life.
I refuse to work one more day than I must for this sick corporation.
If you are thinking about coming on board, I would turn and run, run as fast and as far away as you can from this company. You’re MENTAL HEALTH, and CONSCIOUS, and PERSONAL INTEGRITY will be better off for it.

Sounds very similar to Global Security and that recent environment. Manage the popular verses the proper.

I'm leaving by PiL, y'all.
Dragging it out - 20 days to make decision, then another month to sign the papers. Not a bad deal really. Not doing a lick of work for basically 5 months, with vacation dollars, etc.

In that meantime - I realize I now have the ability to speak my true mind without and repercussions. Glory be.

I can, within these days, copy all upper level management with my supervisor communications regarding the PiL versus PiP.
Even with the most trivial questions, such as:
"So if I have to file any litigation in a Texas-based court, does that mean I'll need a Texas lawer? Can you check with Legal on that?"
or
"So you have a well-documented individualized Improvement Plan for me? That's amazing. I've been asking you for that since we first shook hands."

Maybe just 2 levels up with my CCs - not the Executives (32 or up?) Don't want to be targeted, you know, by the Texas Rangers one dark night.

And, of course, the parting shot. In the email announcing my choice of PiL:
"You parents, spouse and children must be very proud of you."

OP, spot on!
‘They become inured to they system. They have to, otherwise they could not live with themselves. They justify it with their paycheck. Getting that check means they “have to do things I don’t necessarily agree with.” ‘.
Useless, talentless people collecting huge salaries have to protect themselves. You (the destruction of your career) are nothing but collateral damage. There is no core value other that the almighty dollar. Full stop. Talk of “care” and “Integrity” is nothing; verbal garbage spewed about in the dumpster fire that is today’s EM.
