Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The ending few lines of my LETTER today says all you need to know about these dingbats and their RTO idea:

"We look forward to seeing you at the office and living your designation beginning September 5, 2023 and working in your designated work location a minimum of 3 days per week.

Your workplace designation is an expectation of employment. If you are not meeting work location reporting expectations, you will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination of employment.

Thanks for everything you do for our business and for your continued support around How and Where We Work.

This document does not constitute a contract of employment, either expressed or implied, and should not be construed as a contract or assurance of continued compensation, employment or benefit of any kind."

My thoughts: Living your designation? That sounds totally stupid like an HR di-k trying to be a salesperson and failing miserably. Then the threat of discipline up to and including termination right before a smug thank you with a sneer and then an "Oh by the way, we aren't promising you a job for any length of time" - What a--holes they are!!

Most of these office locations couldn't support half of the people they are telling to return to the office 3 days/week.

This is all just a bunch of nonsense. Just keep working from home and doing your job fully. Don't let them intimidate you into being miserable.

Op here. I am in Customer Service. Just told to go from tekeworker to in office 3 days a week in the city near where I live. Don't need to move. Good luck to all in your decisions. Uprooting a family to go to a risky job that could be eliminated is a awful position to be in. That is the John Stankey way of saying you aren't important

OP, what org and location are you in?

In Anthoney org, on Friday, for those in a hub but not Atl or Dallas, we received a letter stating more details to come in late July. Though verbally we were told not to expect a relo, I wonder why we were not given a letter like yours simplybstating RTO in Sep. Those in our org reporting to Dallas and Atl , as expected were told to report on 7/10.

T lost 60Billion in DTV it self and now selling assets buildings and layoffs to at least reduce 6Billion by end of 2023, rather than improving and reduce the operational expenses they are selling assets , now AT&T tech charge u 100$ for a visit if something is wrong with ur internet

Absolutely crazy what they are doing. My letter also stated they reserve the right to move your role at anytime. No thanks I will be doing this until I can find something where I am at that is stable. Tired of this roller coaster

"This wording was needed. Senior leadership receives updates on the content posted on this board and it has been clear for a long time many employees are on their own program and feel they can do whatever they want. This verbiage in the notifications is necessary to prepare for needed enforcement as updated policy mandates are implemented. "

It's about time workers get back into the office and actually work for a change.

"living your designation" - Oh, you mean a worthless peon that you have no actual plan for yet because you now release your knee-jerk reaction to a temper tantrum isn't workable, scalable, or even viable for the business?

“Your workplace designation is an expectation of employment. If you are not meeting work location reporting expectations, you will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination of employment.”

We will see how employment attorneys and the WARN Act tear this to shreds.

OP are you required to move or do you already live by your office? Trying to figure out if people who already live by the office will recieve a letter or still required to be in office by July 10th or the new September date.

Whoever came up with "living your designation" should have that etched into their headstone.

Jerry Kertz or Chris Sambar.... don't recall which - was responsible for coming up with that wording of living your designation.

The letter has reasonable wording. In the past, high level leadership put out informal directives to return to the office a few days a week that were largely ignored by managers and supervisors in many cases. The new policy is making a consistent standard for everyone.

The worst are people who know they are getting laid off because they refuse to uproot their lives to move to Dallas, and still commute hours per day to go to the office 3 days a week for however many months left, holding that severance hostage
