Open Seating

How are things in the Plano location with open seating? Is it first come, first serve where you decide to sit? Word has gotten out that reconstruction will start at the Amon Carter location soon and cubicles will be no longer.

It completely blows. Like others have said, it is not the place to be if you are frequently required to be on conference calls. Certainly not enticing or hygenic; no privacywith 4 desks side by side and those 4 being across from another 4 and no dividers. Being packed in like sardines in a pandemic world with no privacy is a miserable office experience.

@2jio+1npL8oga - your managers are clueless. Not recent and nothing to do with "medical accommodations."

While absolutely about saving $$$, the Master Plan for Open Seating began in Charlotte well OVER 10 years ago.

When first piloted in CLT, Facilities Team was thrilled about the cost saving they could present to management. (really patted themselves on the back!) Management congratulated themselves on the potential savings when extrapolated across all properties that they could promote with Shareholders and (wink, wink) patted themselves on the back about the "Starbucks" like quality of the common areas that could help "sell" this concept to employees. They honestly thought they were being really modern. (but keeping their glass offices)

Meanwhile, the reality is really gross as they did not staff up on cleaning crews to clean filthy sticky keyboards every night. Many of us are renewing medical accommodations BECAUSE OF THE OPEN SEATING. Can't make this stuff up.

I'm at a location where there is open seating and it's quite the opposite. Don't get me wrong it's terrible and everyone hates it but you can hear a pin drop in that place. Everyone has their ear buds in and are dying for privacy. Absolutely no "collaborating" going on..none whatsoever. It's a joke that they think people like it or will be more productive that way. All about saving money.

Another reason to leave this incompetent and dysfunctional company.

I don't know why they don't leave well enough alone. Managers are saying they are doing this to cut down on costs of the cubicle space because each department cost center is paying on those and since a lot of the employees are still out on "medical accommodations" there are way to many cubicles that are sitting there empty. Sounds like BS to me

Everything is filthy, sticky and gross. Loud and can't get anything done.

D-mbest idea.

Majority of people that work at the Plano office hate the open seating. It’s noisy, distracting and a waste of money. Which is why they are wanting folks back in the office so they can justify the remodel. For a company that was so concerned about the plandemic and people staying healthy, open seating indicates otherwise.

It's a very loud environment, especially when you have to be on conference calls. Sounds like people are at local coffee shop.
It also defeats the purpose of having the people you work with in your group near you. If they want us back in an office to be "connected" to those we work with.....it's a terrible idea.

I didn't know it was possible to staff a company this size without any introverts.

I put Clorox wipes in a Ziploc bag from home and use those to clean the area if someone else was sitting there. The wipes provided are generally so dry they don't do anything. People tend to sit at the same spot daily so generally nobody else is using your space but sometimes they do.

….and your Manager sits next to you spying on what you’re doing and micro-managing. Your colleagues keep bugging you for things that are not relevant.

Based on what I hear from teammates there, they hate it.

Basically, it sucks. Musical chairs, where you sit at various generally dirty cubes. Great way to spread germs.
