@4kbb Sizing equipment and Zooming with vendors isn’t engineering.

Most of the people at EM with the word “engineer” in their title are just glorified procurement managers. You don’t design, build, or test anything. You just buy stuff.

Not sure where you’re getting your numbers from. Sounds like you have a specific axe to grind.

The most talented young engineers tend to avoid O&G, for obvious reasons. Get used to outsourcing and scraping the bottom of the barrel in hiring.

EM is an engineering company meaning most of the employees are engineers. At EM, 12% of engineers are black yet they are less than 1% of the population in engineering schools. The numbers prove that blacks are over represented at EM. This can’t happen without discrimination against Asians. Time for the Supreme Court to get involved.

@3weg EM is 80% white and 60% male.

The executive team is almost 100% white.

If you’re being discriminated against, it isn’t showing up in the numbers.

Agree, no use in doing anything. Either you’re in the protected DEI group and you’ll be promoted without ever doing anything, don’t even need to show up for work, or you’re a white male and no matter how much you do, you’ll be PIP’d to save a position for the DEI hire.

@1oue … no debate with your main point on downsizing. But in the trenches, don’t you think they should be making an effort to keep competency (i.e. how well you do your job) vs bullsh-ttery (i.e. above and beyond corporate fluff projects aligned with BS department goals)?

Ranking and hiring should be based solely on diversity. We need more brothers in this company.

Most of the "ranking" is just programming from HR to selectively get the workforce down to where they want it. You are being told the truth to the extent that your base job results don't count. Maybe one day, a decade from now, the Company will behave normally

I keep getting told in ranking sessions that doing my base job well “doesn’t count”. To get a good ranking I need to come up with some above and beyond razzle dazzle that aligns with my bosses bosses vision or something like that.

So aside from personal pride, why exactly am I doing a good job if I’m being told by the company that it doesn’t count?

@cjf Then get terminated immediately for cause with no legal recourse. Smart.

If you think this way about your job you should just move on.

@OP You’ve been doing the bare minimum for years. So have your colleagues. Hence the PIP.

Usually when you do the bare minimum your co-workers have to pick up your slack. If you don't care about yourself at least care about your co-workers.
