Ford rehire policy

I got laid off from Ford last week, but I see Ford hiring for positions matching my profile. I really don't want to come back to Ford, but looks like there aren't many job opportunities in the market. Does anyone know what is the rehire policy of Ford is?

Yeah you can be re-hired it’s about who you know and who’s willing to help you. Your best friends in the big 3 is your Committeeman/union rep. If not they will tell you all day that your not re-hireable, they won’t even allow you to go through or help your with the grievance process. I was fired because a car I bought fuel pump went out 3 weeks after I purchased the car. I was given a loaner vehicle. The car was still not worked on for the 30 days I was allowed to have the vehicle. So I had to return the car without being able to leave with mines so I stopped showing up and next thing you know terminated. That was 4 years ago. I’ve applied at 3 different plants about 4-5 times each and they jus refuse to hire me- good luck if you do

Ford does not have any respect for their employees at all, I was working there totaled my car. Lived about an hour out where Ubers wouldn’t go. Started living at a hotel so I can continue working there, my grandma passed away well most of my family had already passed so she was cremated. They give you 3 days non paid for my position and status of employment, after returning to work I was told to gather paperwork, given an impossible 24 limit. After explaining she was cremated straight to my face the labor employee I was having trouble with from the start asked me why I missed any work at all if there was no funeral… after I was clearly told like any other job regardless of funeral that I received 3 days. My grandma was basically my mother growing up, they clearly didn’t give a F*** anyways the time limit which was really 10 hours because I had to continue working my shift that day which ended at 3am I had to return by 4pm the next day. Basically meaning since I had no car and was staying at a hotel 40 mins from the place that cremated her and 35 mins from my uncles who had the obituaries made and was gonna mail them. I had really 7 hours meaning I couldn’t sleep. I told them there’s no way I could complete this task, I just didn’t return and wrote an email stating the impossible task, two days later was admitted into the hospital after suffering another seizure. They didn’t even contact me back lol. I’m sure I could be rehired and it is probably the best paying job in my area but god the disrespect was just next level not sure if it’s even worth it.

I was just reading on Twitter the claim that 15% of the jabs Ford insisted their employees get are quite toxic to your immune system. The claim goes further to state that 15% have about 5 years, 2 of which have already passed.
Ford and many other companies may have to change their rehire policy if what these doomsayers predict comes to pass.

Dont be the drowning swimmer who frantically grasps at anything in a bid to not go under. This place is a shell of what it used to be, so bite the bullet and look elsewhere. You will be much happier in the end.

I don’t think it matters if you sign the severance paperwork or not. They’re p ricks either way. Probably a good thing to ask a lawyer to confirm.

Ford is becoming like Amazon, there going to lay off so many workers in combination with workers that just quit, that in no time they will run out of people willing to work for them. For Amazon thought it was within 2 years or so from now Amazon would hit that wall.

Well connected rats always find a way back to the ship. The ones who make it back are definitely "friends and family"

It used to be that if you were laid off from Ford because your position was eliminated or car sales were down, you could come back to the company again when they had an opening.
The people in Lansing have let us down by not legislating that companies in MI have to give their employees who were laid off for economic reasons, the first shot at any future openings.

If you are angry about this and are motivated to do something, take it up with the politicians in Lansing. They're all the same political party in control. They're supposed to be all about standing up for the working folks. Let's see them do something for us.

"You can never be rehired"
That's Ford's "policy". It didn't used to be this way.
That might change if Ford can't find people. But there's always someone who thinks, "it will be different for me."

I know of two people who were let go and then rehired a few years later. Both required an LL4 signature which means these people came back through the “friends and family” back door. They didn’t randomly apply for an open position. One of these people was let go again in one of the resent layoffs. I know one person who was let go, reapplied a few years later and was rehired only to be told on the first day of work that they were not eligible for a position at Ford. That was a low blow as they had resigned from another position to return to Ford. They were left without a job and ineligible for unemployment because they quit their job. I hope you can move forward and find a new job that makes you happy. As someone who has been in your shoes I promise you will find a job and you’ll likely be happier than you were a couple of weeks ago.

That is correct. You can never be rehired.

“You mean one can never rejoin Ford for life once laid off?”

Seems to be the case. That’s what the paperwork they sent says. Seems irrational and insane to me, especially if there are open positions that haven’t been filled in months.

It didn’t used to be this way. I was at Ford many years, and in the old days, first they gave you a chance to find another job.

@ybv -> I clearly mentioned why I am trying to do this. At the end of the day, I've got bills to pay and in less than three months, my insurance is gonna run out.

I'm in the same situation, except I found 3 positions matching my skills, education, and experience, but in different areas of the company than what I was in. (Had I had any clue that I would be fired, I would have applied for those weeks ago.)

But from what I've read, Ford refuses to re-hire anyone they fire.

@OP+1ns3D7H4

Why would you want to come back to a place which clearly doesn't value or respect you?

Have some self respect and find another job.
