Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Management running VPN reports, not badge

I work in a Global Tech data team. Up until this past week, I've only heard from my manager informally in meetings to come into the office 3 days per week. It's even been said in the past no one is monitoring. No details on what would happen if we didn't. We were just told in email VPN reports are being run and it better show 60% of our week is in office. Even if there's a holiday, you're still expected 60%, or 24 hours per week in office network.

Management is unfortunately not interested in giving employees deliverables and then verifying they actually completed them, regardless where it was completed from. That would require "managing".

Note, everything we do is logged. If they want to get rid of any of us, they have the resources to do so.

They'll be monitoring if your device connects to the bank network on days you swipe your badge. No one is going to be able to swipe their badge and return home. Don't know if they will be monitoring for how long (doubt it but wouldn't put it past them either).

Poor comps/bonuses, no backfilling, tripled our workloads, consumer defrauding our customers and 250 million in fines... Embrace the su-k, all they can offer us at this point...

Allowing some permanently working from home while requiring the others to go back to office violets the equal rights for employees.

There are still employees in my work program (grandfatherd into it from many years ago) that never have to go into the office. It's been rumor for years (even before COVID) that my work was going away but it's still around. If you are lucky enough to be in it and switch roles, you automatically get dropped the program. I know some that never plan on leaving their role because they don't want to give up legacy my work status.

@2qoj+1ntZwnv - on a call they said "all but 10,000 employees are back in the office", so I think those of us holding out are on the losing side of this battle.

They'll just use it as an excuse to not pay any package.

I don't intend to ever go back in, but let's not kid ourselves. They have no loyalty and unfortunately will not miss any of us at all. We are all disposable AND replaceable.

They say there is power in numbers. What if majority of the workers stand their ground, continue WFH most of the time, BUT STILL DELIVER ? Can management really cut that much muscle?

@1ygd+1ntZwnvL - M-F 8am-5pm your local time only.

Weekends do not count. (so don't do it!!! I regret the many, many weekends I went in over my career here. (have always been an Top Performer Exceeds/Exceeds, but NEVER got paid higher than peers (same band, same city). Once I hit salary ceiling for B3 (no desire to become B2) my comp went up and down according to the guidance around the pool for our division (YE bonus up/down x% depending how the bank did that year. My individual performance (E/E) made NO DIFFERENCE.

Learn from my mistake. Clock out 5pm Friday (hard stop) and live your best life!

(You won't remember anyone here and they certainly will not remember you, nor will you even care.)

The nuance of badge swipes vs VPN will be irrelevant. The bank has made a decision to exit a tranche of employees who do not comply with work from office rules. It is easy to make a case of no discrimination when badge/VPN data is used versus more challenging soft data like performance. It is another way of conducting quiet layoffs.
Once the worst offenders are exited, watch for increases to 4 then 5 days per week, with corresponding exits for non compliance. It’s another way to maintain a stream of attrition without the noise of layoffs. You can’t argue with the simplicity of the approach, so get used to that culture if you choose to work there.

For badge swipe, are they looking at Monday thru Friday only. What if you need to come in on weekend for whatever reason?
For office network use, are they looking at 9am thru 5 pm only ?

What if you use HVD without VPN?

Plain and simple all depends what team and line of business you work for. Every team has different day requirements etc. Face facts this is just how it is so you can take your VPN report and throw it somewhere.
