Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Simon denied my request to work remote

I was hired two years ago as a full time telecommuter and live in the Midwest. I was told the position was full time remote. I live Nowhere close to a service center and 120 miles from a schwab branch. I was denied today and told I had to drive into a customer branch 3 days a week.

How much sense does this make? Drive to a customer branch and work in an office with financial advisors while I’m in IT security? Perhaps I can fix printers and fax machines in my spare time.

This firm’s leadership have lost their collective minds. I feel bad for the many employees in a similar situation as I. Already applied to a few companies and contracting firms. I never should have left my previous company. This place is ridiculous

As a casual observer of the Platform Team, the amount of disgusting boot-licking that your areas leadership does to Simon should be grounds enough for termination.

No one’s being told to come into branches, so what’s the real story?

The fact that Simon still has decision making authority is all you need to know about how fu---d up this company is. Has has wasted so much of our shareholder money due to his complete inability to make any type of decision. I work in platform services and we waste so much capacity that I wonder how we turn a profit.

Should ask Simon to present details on how much he is in the office.

This is the new way of laying off people have them quit. I knew it was only a matter of time before they would get rid of remote jobs. CS cannot have big buildings sitting empty.... All these big companies are quietly doing this so they don't have to announce layoffs... So when the media says unemployment is low haha when they say almost a 10 million jobs available haha Good luck finding a high paying job. The only jobs out there are the lower paying service industry. I got laid off in January and still looking. Of course if I was applying from overseas they would hire you in an instant... get the drift...

The fact that Simon is still allowed to make any decision is all we need to know on what is wrong with Chuckie Schwab. Plenty of remote roles with IT security. Don't let the good opportunities slip by waiting for a severance. Most companies will make you whole.

Simon has driven IO into the ground.

Isn’t Denver at capacity already? Even if employees agreed to move closer to a campus, what are the options really? Westlake would likely not accommodate everyone.

Unless you are an FC, a Branch Manager or Customer Support, you cannot work out of a branch. They are not there to expand your skill set.

I had an almost similar situation happen this week. Despite Simon denying my request to work remotely, I choose to see this as an opportunity for growth and adaptation. While it may require some adjustments, driving to a customer branch a few days a week can offer a chance to interact with financial advisors and expand my skill set. I believe in the leadership's decision-making and understand that organizational needs evolve. I'm actively exploring new avenues within Schwab and embracing the chance to learn and contribute in different ways. Change can be a catalyst for personal and professional development, and I'm excited to make the most of it.

The email and FAQ that went out on Friday regarding office closures stated that branch locations will not be able to accommodate anyone. So that was a lie to get you to quit, or the person that denied your request is misinformed.

You were told you need to go into an office that serves the clients of Schwab Advisors? Aren't they usually very small and designed with private offices for Advisors? They don't have cubicles. How will that even work if they are doing this in other cases?

I'm sure the Schwab Advisors won't be happy about that.

This is getting confusing.

Welcome to Colorado, OP. Or, Welcome to Texas! Your choice.

Simon don't care.

That branch won’t have any room for you. That’s a lose-lose situation. So messed up.

It's plain as day - they WANT people to quit - that way they don't have to layoff and payout - greedy execs, as usual.
