Xom is where I learned how to embezzle. I haven't tried it yet but have seen the strategies by supervisors. Corruption in Exxon means corruption everywhere in our American way of life.

In the first ranking meeting that I attended, the meeting leader had been given instructions by phone on two individuals and where to rank them. There was no discussion about those two and their performance, at the end of the meeting there names were placed at the top and very near the top just as instructed. I was amazed because I did not know that happened but the guy beside me said it happened in every session, but that it was rare for the meeting leader to outright say these two will not be discussed and just placed in the list at the end as instructed.
I have also noticed that one of my direct reports magically was above two other direct reports when the final numbers appeared. This means the rank list is manipulated after the rank session unrelated to performance order as agreed in the ranking session.
These are not illegal acts, but common systematic unethical corruption that benefits persons chosen by senior management.
Corrupt? Not very. Toxic? Outstanding With Distinction.
ExxonMobil is a f-c$ing joke. Horrible leadership, horrible toxic culture, and unlimited lies across the board.
@oda+1. Promoting or demoting whoever a company wants is normal, but telling the workforce that the ranking is based completely on performance is at the very least unethical.
EM should just outright admit that chosen individuals are moved to top of rank list based on theoretical assigned ultimate potential and certain other individuals are moved up to meet race and gender distribution targets.
After one particular ranking session in which an individual working for me was accurately ranked below his direct coworkers that outperformed him, many weeks later the final rank numbers appeared and holy cr-p the lowest person from the rank meeting list was so far above the others that it seemed an error. I went to HR to inquire about the obvious error and HR said that there was no error, the person was gifted that huge amount of RG points because of his race so EM could meet its target distribution. Those points were not earned by that id--t. I was told by HR that I should communicate to the individual that their performance was that good and not mention the race bonus points. HR falsely gave performance points based on race then instructed me to tell an employee that reported to me a deliberate lie in a ranking communication meeting.
Management and HR breaking rules then instructing employees to lie to hide the truth seems common in EM. If you do not reinforce the lies when instructed, then your ranking drops.
PS those instructions to break policies and to lie are always verbal.
Exxon may have sold out to china but at least they didn’t do it with taxpayer money like the very corrupt administration we have in dc right now
There are probably more companies with cutthroat cultures but XOM definitely stands out.
This right here is how the managers are ruining this company one section at a time as they move them into high performing units so they can’t sc--w things up. By the time they are done mismanaging things it takes years to rebuild competency and trust.

Not only did this send the wrong message to “dragon” and reinforced her poor, pathetic behaviors, but impacted several folks that deserved a higher ranking. Prior to the HR session we maneuvered the entire rank list to anticipate. What a waste of time
Working for this company is massively demotivating. Had my first year in a new division, new role, essentially starting from scratch. Got told everything I did was worth of a higher rank but needed more things that were circuit wide impacts (I'm at a site). At the same time, they'll tell you that YOE in role is factored in ranking, not to mention that impact level is literally in SDA as a role senior to mine. It'll be 20 years until they even would consider me for that level. All fkn year there was zero indication that the boss wanted me to try and find those things, only focus on the site and the two jobs I was doing, you know, improving things that actually mattered and needed fixing. The message it sends is fk you, fk anything you want to do that makes a difference here, what we want you to do is su-k up to people in Houston regardless of whether or not it actually provides any value. Ranking is a fkn scam.

It is not corrupt to promote or fire whoever you choose. It’s the American way actually. If you got a cr-ppy ranking and think it was not deserved, just move on to work somewhere else (which with your line of thinking will automatically be less corrupt).
The only systematic corruption that I know of in EM is the ranking system in which certain individuals are given falsely inflated rankings because of sponsorship or to attain targets for distribution of race, s-x, or nationalities.
I was outright told by HR that persons of certain races or s-xes are moved up in ranking after the ranking meeting to achieve targets. This is the type of systematic racism that the Supreme Court has ruled against.
I was with EM for 30 years as an engineer. I saw corruption exactly one time. I had just graduated and was working my first engineering job, an EM job in Australia, when my EM super asked one of our contractors to bring him a ‘bag of money’ if he wanted to keep working on the job. I was shocked. I was equally shocked when the contractor actually brought him a bag of money!! I guess I was not very worldly at the time. Anyway, the whole thing was weird; my super got his bag of money, the contractor kept his job and I never said anything to anyone. (I know, my bad).
Thankfully, that was my only experience with company corruption.
ENRON is #1 among the oil companies.
The vast majority of companies are more corrupt than EM. Unless you are defining corrupt in a nonstandard manner.
