Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Unvested Stock Grants and Layoffs

What happens with unvested stock grants when laid off? I am assuming the company forfits the stock but not sure - also, if forfiting is the rule, do they sometimes make exceptions?

Unless you meet retirement eligibility guidelines, all unvested RSUs and options are cancelled. Retirees get anywhere from 1 to 4 years of accelerated stock vesting. Just meeting "rule of 75" or "rule of 55+15" will only get you 1 year accelerated, but retirees over 60 years old get 1 year accelerated for each 5 years of service.

As far as exceptions, I know someone that got the retirement package for being less than 30 days from being retirement eligible and I know someone that didn't get it when they were 90 days from being eligible.

BTW, The first round of layoffs was timed to get employees out-the-door before the stock vested in April. Employees that had been at Intel for longer than 2 years would get nothing from the remainder of their 2019 and 2020 grants since those vested annually instead of quarterly.

The thing that makes me laugh about this board though is that if you work at Intel and read your emails you should know all this anyway.

But reading is hard ... especially reading for comprehension.

Er, well, not entirely true what's posted here.

If you just leave, yeah you'll get nothing. But if you take CPM they'll give you a proportion of your unvested RSUs as part of the package. Depends on your age and service, whether you meet rule of 60 or 75.

I got CPM'ed earlier this year and I got a year's worth of RSUs. I'm an old ge---r though and worked for Intel for 25 years.

Yup. Gone ... bye bye!

Funny thing about vesting schedules; they're designed to motivate you to stick around.

Eventually the RSUs are redistributed using new future grants.

It would be interesting to find out the percentage of RSUs which never vest due to employees leaving.

The employee forfeits the grants.
