Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

2 week notice or not ?

So those of us that are planning to leave, are you giving a 2 week notice or just a few days?Personally I am not planning to sit around and hope for severance or for someone to get hit by a bus. Just curious what others are thinking.

No severance from what’s been said. Return to office not an issue , it’s the moving to a new building that doesn’t sit well with most. Who wants to work downtown and deal with public trans and what not. Some are forced to stay due to no severance , while those who want to stay are being forced out if they don’t move to another state.

For our group the SNL letters go out on the 21st, off payroll 8/4/23.

"Do you even have to give notice? Can’t you just collect from two companies until they notice? Asking for a friend."

You may have problems if you've got medical insurance from both companies and you make a claim with either of them. Their could be other complications like a security violation if you sign on to another company's network with an AT&T provided device and expose the T network to outsiders. (My best guesses.)

The way I always looked at it is this: the 2 weeks is a nice gesture, if your employer has been good to you and there is a mutual respect, but with AT&T, if they wanted to fire you, they would escort you out on the spot, so what would make them believe they deserve to get 2 weeks from you? If you want to quit, and you're ready, just tell them to shove it.

Do you even have to give notice?

Nope but it’s a gesture of good will. If you never plan on working for AT&T or don’t expect any good references from your boss (which is limited by HR for legal reasons nowadays anyway) then just call it in.

Rumor has it there was a craft guy in CA who just stopped showing up and ghosted the company.

The company took a while before firing him. He was paid the whole time.

Some companies will march you to the door on the day you give notice even if you do.

I plan to leave in the months ahead. I plan to provide 2 weeks notice; however, I will be prepared to leave the "day of" if AT&T decides to walk me out the door, so to speak. So taking into account earned vacation, holidays, etc when I actually give notice.

Do you even have to give notice? Can’t you just collect from two companies until they notice? Asking for a friend.

I mean, as long as one of them is remote and preferably doesn't care during what hours you complete the work. I would not, however, be using one company's laptop and equipment to perform work for the other.

Why give the two week notice when you can just get severance pay? If they aren’t giving you severance, just milk them until you find a new job and collect unemployment if necessary.

I will give a 2 week notice because I respect my boss and care about my team

I will leave when I am ready and on my terms. If AT&T forces my hand, then so be it. I have made my plan and will execute based on the options in available to me.
