Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

RTO

Why do they want us to come back into the office when the PGH office is so sh-t. Downtown is a-s too as well. What is the point? People are more productive at home anyway. And tbh why would anyone work for at PGH? There are like no exit ops and there is like no networking and nothing to do. People were more productive during the pandemic.

Can anybody here translate what the @OP is trying to say? Between the tortured grammar, verbing of nouns, invention of TLAs and run on blathering I’m hoping that @OP doesn’t actually work here.

Rules are rules

That’s the same weak mindset that ended up with people wearing masks (some still are) and getting ineffective, unsafe and untested shots.

They want you in the office because the pandemic is over and that’s where you should be. It’s not that hard to understand.

@2wos

People don’t seem to realize that the bulk of One BNYM has always been rented out. We never needed all of that space and the sole reason that we own it is because we happened to be the lender to Dravo, who were building it as their Headquarters in early 1980s “Renaissance 2”. Then in the rust belt collapsed and Dravo went belly up. As the lender we wound up owning the building in he early 90’s. We never needed nor wanted that building.

The Client Service Center is a much better facility which was designed and built from scratch for any and all banking functions.

The Client Service Center can easily accommodate the entire Pittsburgh footprint.

After leaving BNYM, I went to a company that is 100% in-office five days a week. I absolutely love it. We collaborate and the only time we do calls is if it's with a client. We're also all in the same office.

BNYM is a different beast. Because teams are geographically distributed, it's common for you to be in a different location than most of your team. Still, Robin wants everyone back in the office. If you want to keep working there, it's time to go back into the office or risk getting the axe. Complain all you want, but the rules are the rules. Being in the office is a criteria for performance reviews now.

@1mdk, Pittsburgh MAY be OUR biggest center for employment, but it isn't THE biggest center for employment.

@2ph

Theyy are going to downsize significantly by moving out of 500 Grant and cramming everyone into the client service center. I think 2024 is the target. That's gonna be a huge change and challenge. Not to mention the skyline of the city will lose the Bnym name.

The fact that there are very few senior managers in Pittsburgh says it all. It is no longer viewed as the place to be. Downtown pittsburgh has become a slum and it wouldn’t surprise me if they were planning to downsize significantly in the coming years.

I quit 2 years ago. No regrets. I am working from home. You can do it too!

Since there is no concrete answer or policy, anybody can find about how many days are expected to go in if it’s a short work week for you, ….. I believe it is intentionally vague…..

I thought I would pass this along - Some groups are being told the expectation is to be in 60% of the time on a calendar month now. Apparently there’s a new dashboard that supposedly interfaces with our days off.
So if you have a lot of vacation days in a month, figure out what the 60% of your working days are and that’s how many days you should come in to avoid that bad list- again, not positive this is 100% accurate but multiple groups have been told this.

@1lfy

Actually he is correct on both counts.

Pittsburgh is our biggest Center of employment globally and there is no real leadership there anymore beyond 2 Senior yes men.

@op

Can somebody please translate the @Op into English? All that I can tell is that @Op is passionately incoherent about something. Maybe it’s lost in the “exit Ops” which might indicate driving issues in the city or maybe something else.

@OP

This is a massive psychological break. If you know this individual please get him to some help.

As long as they keep laying off the senior leadership out of Pittsburgh, nothing is going to change. The biggest Center of employment globally and there is no leadership there anymore. The few senior managers remaining are so focused on saving their own skins that they do nothing but kiss up to their NY overlords for their own preservation. The pittsburgh “leadership” committee is a joke…..nothing but promoting their own profiles and agendas
