Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Story on layoffs

Hi there,

My name's Yowei Shaw and I'm a journalist working on a story for the podcast This American Life (www.thisamericanlife.org) about layoffs, after getting laid off myself from NPR (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/25/us/npr-layoffs-podcasts.html).

It was an awful experience and I'm so sorry Wells Fargo might be facing layoffs as well.

Which is why I'm reaching out. I'm looking to talk to workers who know or suspect layoffs are coming, but are still waiting to find out who's on the list. I'm hoping this story can shed light on what it's like to go through this and some of the larger questions and issues that surround layoffs.

If you're open to talking, please get in touch this week or next at shaw.yr@gmail.com. I can tell you more about what I'm working on, and if it helps, we can speak on background or off the record. Feel free to pass this along to anyone who's in the same situation and if you have any leads, I'm all ears.

Thanks for considering. Sending my very best to you and your colleagues.

Oh and here's my website (www.yoweishaw.com) if you want to find out more about me and my previous work.

Take care,
Yowei

Outsourcing and H1B visa

If you can fix that, you will likely fix 80% of the problems we all have. Companies stop respecting workers because there are hundred thousands of white collar workers waiting to take your job.

Lots of reporters on this site and yet never an article from the ones who ask for material.

We lose our severance if Charlie and HR find out we squawked. Wish we could talk to you about this sh$t hole!

Yowei - TAL is an icon of american media and my favorite show for a decade+ thank you for trying to connect with us WF folks. One key thing to consider - per policy any unauthorized contact with the media is a fireable offense at Wells. You'll need to ensure multiple layers of anonymity to coax folks to talk. Good luck - lots of heartfelt stories out there from the good people at this once-proud institution.

You should hit up USAA employees. That place is going to he-l faster than Wells Fargo can hand out surprise credit cards.

But you’re probably a HR goon looking to fire people exercising their first amendment right, so you won’t. Real journalist don’t use Gmail. SMFH
