Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

The grass is probably greener but. . .

How difficult will it be to find a new opportunity for those who get laid off?

I wouldn't want to discourage anyone, but I've been looking for a new job for much longer than I thought it would take.

From what I've seen in the short time I was at Crown you might want to look elsewhere. There will be another layoff when their fines start hitting for being out of compliance with their customers. Also loss of revenue due to lacking federal contract requirements. We had no federal renewals this year because we couldn't show proof we met contract requirements. The "leaders" felt it would be better to focus in 2025 on that. They feel they can make these requirements overnight when they can't even make them now.

I used to work at Crown Castle until about 2 years ago. Before I got let go, my supervisor regularly told me my ideas were no good and that I didn’t deserve much of anything in the way of bonuses. I became so depressed I almost believed him. It took around 6 months to find another job but when I did, I made more than I did at CC and 6 months after I was hired, I got promoted to manage my own team with a big boost in salary equal to every bonus and raise I should have had while at Clown Castle. All I can say is, God is good and the prayers of the righteous avail much. In other words, ain’t nothin gonna break my stride, nobody gonna hold us down. Just keep on movin. Crown is garbage, I guarantee you are being undervalued wallowing in that dump. Bet on yourself and find a place that values you,

I used to work at Crown and am so sorry to hear about what you all are going through. All I can say is it will work out, you will find another job. And you will look back someday and be glad it happened this way. I know it doesn’t feel that way now. Better future ahead! And $$$$

Crowns biggest problem has been and is, at least at southpoint, the web of people related to one another either by blood, marriage, college roommates, spousal, dating, etc. There are at least 150 old timers that are only loyal to their clans and sc--w everyone else. Until they root that out they'll always be sub par. They have more power than the emt.

A suggestion I've heard from recruiters and hiring managers is to not put the green flag up on linkedin. FWIW it might come across as too desperate and signal potential instability.

times are slow in wireless, but other industries are doing much better, because they don't have the luxury to just stop working for awhile. Most people at Crown didn't do much of anything day to day, and for those of you, it will be a struggle. Management with no experience created this entire mess.

Can say after the 2020 layoff I thought I’d be fine, but it took way longer to finally land another job. Then another, lol. I had to get flexible and realize that many years at Crown were not enough to make me a hot commodity on the market. Maybe consider a career coach in your field, early, if you get nervous at all about your job search. And best of luck to you - and everyone. There -is- life after all this, no matter where it leads.

@1wcg+1o08ssHR - always best to look when you are not in need. But hard to make a change when it's "smooth sailing", it's easy to get comfortable. Good luck to you this week.

I couldn’t volunteer for financial reasons. The risk of not finding a job fast scares me. But even if I survive tomorrow I’m going to be looking for the next job all fall. I just don’t have faith in what this place will look like in the future.

@1wcg+1o08ssHR - I expected to be laid off, but think I am around to help the aftermath.
Not assuming permanently. But too nervous to wait around to risk what seems to be coming. A good job as Q4 hits, is harder to find. The four day and eventual five day is another push out the door. Best to grab what's on the table now, despite the loss of the severance etc., than risk this again in a few months.

The cutoff time has passed. Quite a few volunteered as tribute and were turned down. The Purple overlords have other intentions. Those fields won’t plow themselves; there must be peasants.

Even though you are safe, did you inquire if you could be a late volunteer to see if you could get the package? Dont yet know my fate, but find myself in a similar position. Package and a job would be nice, but if I am ‘lucky’ enough to stay, is there any chance to be a late volunteer as tribute?

I applied the day after the announcement. Interviewed that week, got a job offer last Friday. More money and better schedule. Only to find out I am safe. Not complaining obviously, but I have to leave all PTO and unvested items behind, with no big severance check. I guess protecting my future is payment enough.

I've got one lined up already. Invest in yourself and your resume/skills while you have time off.
