Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Lots of pretenders in my org.. how about you?

No offense to anyone but do you also observe that there are a ton of people who are just here and slow things down more than contribute to it?

Cisco is perfect for non techies, like if you are in acquisitions, marketing, VP levels.. loves traveling and expense hi end hotels and dining. Hence for them Cisco is the Best Place to Work in world.

I’m so sick of these lazy co-workers. There are some of us who are tying to make difference in the workplace. These kind of people are horrible!

They are a majority in my team....some call themself strategy and planning, other call them self story teller (BS), some claim themself as the evangelist and travel all around the world for a 45 mins meetings (which they can do easily in using webex) ...no Sales quota, manipulated KSO's ..enjoying travel world, golf, expensive dinners, fun activities all in the name of business development.

More of a bling show corporate culture rather an engineering, tech innovator company.

I was there nearly a quarter century ago before the culture you're complaining about existed. The quality was poor and everything was still show rather than go. The executives thought the share price would grow exponentially forever. Guess who trained the current crowd?

Cisco has spent around $100B in acquisitions over 30 years so get over the idea that they were ever a "tech innovator company." As a business they bought enough companies to fill every niche so their competitors had no where to go and most are out of business now. While its current competitors are eating a bit of market share every year no one is willing to compete on price so the margins will remain and the suffering will continue.

I left late Oct last year, lasted only 1.5 yrs. I cannot stand the very tribal, 3rd world work culture. If you grew up in Asia I think you will thrive in CSCO. Mgmnt is like those in Korean soap TV series, Bolywood movies, where lots of fancy super deep words, dramatics. Perfect for those non-engineering, delegate type of folks. More of a bling show corporate culture rather an engineering, tech innovator company.
