Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

There's a new round of tech layoffs happening right now

It's making me a bit nervous.

...critical processes, tools, products start to break...

At least on the software side all of these things were broken in the 1990s long before the first round of layoffs in 2001, and until Cisco measures what is important rather that what is easiest for automatic dashboards to collect it will never improve.

If you are not part of the "Tribe", you are good as dead. So much for diversity, inclusion BS.

But chances are, if you don’t get cut, you’ll just say “Phew, I’m glad I wasn’t one of the slackers they laid off. They must like me. Oh well. So long su-kers!”

But they do like you. You're underpaid for your experience/role, or you're a person w/ half the experience of the ones being laid off and paid according to that experience level. The people let go aren't slackers, they're expensive compared to others. Think about that every pay raise and/or promotion you receive as it increases the size of the target on your back.

What's the ELT's plan when critical processes, tools, products start to break because of layoffs too many? Think the Duo breach was bad? Brace for what's next then!

When will you people realize this will be your life the rest of your time at Cisco?

A collection of groups in my building were all laid off at the same time, and we made sure everyone on those teams knew months in advance that this was coming. We even built a support system and invited everyone to join. On the day we're all packed into the largest conference rooms in the building a significant percentage having been told everyone in the room had just been laid off they still didn't really believe it and were asking nonsensical questions of HR trying to see if this was some kind of mistake.

Years later I still wonder how this could be and I've never come up with a good explanation.

Based on this my answer to your question is "for some people they won't realize it even when they're being laid off."

Serious question. If you make it through this round, do you think you’re going to be safe the next time? And the next time? When will you people realize this will be your life the rest of your time at Cisco?

But chances are, if you don’t get cut, you’ll just say “Phew, I’m glad I wasn’t one of the slackers they laid off. They must like me. Oh well. So long su-kers!”

ELT has been very quiet, we know what that means.

Why? It's not as if we have been layoff-free all this time.
