I personally refuse to use my own telephone for WF work. Have signed up for a Google Voice number and that's all they get. I remember reading thru all the stuff you had to sign for a BYOD phone - basically they can wipe your phone completely clean at any time if they feel there was some sort of security breach. That's a hard pass for this old fa-t.
I do have the BYOD for WAVE VDI and I went thru the agreements you have to sign with a fine toothed comb. Legally they can't monitor anything outside of the Voyager client/session.
I really don't care if there's any info sec risk. I'm not signing up for any such nonsense with my personal phone. If they don't think reaching me is important enough to issue me a cell, then neither do I. End of story.
@onj You say there’s so much ignorance in this thread. A close, personal friend of mine works in IT security for a large, multinational technology corporation. This is one of those people who is tapped on the shoulder to fly around the world and sort out ransomware-type situations. They know their stuff.
When BYOD was offered to me years ago I asked this person if there was anything to worry about. Would monitoring end at apps used within the WF container so to speak? Their response was quick: “I personally wouldn’t do it.” This person’s employer offered the same BYOD solution, but they chose to carry multiple devices instead. That was all I needed to hear.
I work in TI. There is no reason for anyone to co-mingle any personal device with Wells business use. Too many ways things can go bad for the individual.
The question is:
What has changed to prevent Wells Fargo from getting fined again?

No, they just don't want you to text business via personal phones. So, if you don't want to use Hearsay, then just use email. You can still text, just not pertinent business info
Never opt in to Bring Your Own Device to use your personal cell phone for work. Ask that they provide you a company phone that you'll use for company business. If they say they won't provide you a company phone then you tell them NO.
In California that is illegal.
I do not conduct any WF business on my personal cell so will not happen for me.
If this is about regulated users, then the company should provide them with the devices to meet the regulations. Simple as that.
If Wells Fargo can install whatever they want on my personal cell phone, I will be installing whatever I want on their computer systems.
So if they can do this to traders, they can do it to anyone. Remember this when BYOD shifts to include our personal computers for VDI!
Think that'd never happen? Imagine folks who, frustrated with Teams, chat with others via a different app outside the VDI interface on the same computer.
They never used the word “confiscate”, but that is what happened.

WF will not and cannot forcibly install an app on your personal device. That’s not how any of this works.

Might be helpful to occasionally read the news. This is what is being recommended:

There's not a strong enough way to say no to this. If they wanna buy me a new phone every year, then we can talk about this. Otherwise, no way.

I feel like it's a waste of energy to spend time on a hypothetical situation.
