Thread regarding Ford layoffs

If I am a Salaried Worker and my Plant Strikes, do I go into the plant?

I will have little/no work to do since the plant is shut down. Do I just drive home? Sleep in and enjoy? What happens?

Do not cross the picket line!

Just remember you have to work with the picketers when strike is over.

They have good memories.

I bet if there is a strike and the salaried employees don't show up. They will be the ones on the chomping block.

I don’t think you should cross the picket line. Just call in and say you couldn’t get through. Just too dangerous and you don’t want any trouble.

Sure go ahead and report if you don’t care about your health in the near term (trying to cross a picket line) or far term (union folks have long memories and will remember you…not it a good way, either).

And before anyone says it’s not like that anymore, it had changed folks - union is scared about our brave new BEV world and will not give an inch this time. This should be interesting and could be long; long enough strike to put Ford never the brink.

In the late 90's I was a salaried floor supervisor in the Rouge. A strike was expected and all of the salaried employees had to attend 2-3 training classes so we would know what to do/not do in the event of a strike. During one of those classes we were told that if a strike happened, we would have to report for work, even though there would be no employees to supervise. I was concerned about trying to cross the picket line and one of the other supervisors, who had been around a long time, told me show up and if the gate was blocked, go home and call the office and tell them that I couldn't get through. Fortunately, a deal was made with about 30 minutes to spare. Things are a lot different now and it's doubtful salaried workers would have to report. Either way, plant management will tell you what the expectations are. In the unlikely event you have to report, keep the advice of that old school supervisor in mind.

Have you out to the union rep yet about this?

I imagine you stay out and collect your check until Ford finishes the upgrades.

Not sure if you’re allowed to work another job whilst collecting pay, also something to check with.
