Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Very anxious and stressed out

I don't know how this performance stuff works, I keep asking every week if I am doing okay, and wasn't told anything super negative as far as I know.

The stuff is due tomorrow; should I fill it out as much possible? If i get a bad rating tomorrow, am I on PIP? When is the "end of the year" rating? Is it in Jan.

I don't want to get fired, the job market is pretty bad right now and I have constant anxiety if I will be here 3 to 6 months from now.

I love all these posts about "staying here because....

Understand this, Ford is shifting all skilled labor to LCCs. Your time at the company is extremely limited. This transition will be complete on the next two years, max.

Get out while your still have your mental health.

Join the uaw. I can't believe degreed professionals are treated this way. With all the course work, labs, and cost of college, you come to work for a company who treats you like garbage. Unbelievable, grow some ba--s, quit or organize.

@2hvq+1o311IdZ Good post about keeping your skills current and living below your means. Only thing I would add is to start regularly investing in an Index Fund.

@OP. I know this cat and mouse game that Ford is playing with us can be devastating for mental health. You'll find other companies out there playing the same game (usually large enterprises). Even medium sized companies will use a bad job market to keep the salaries low.

As an employee, there is not much you can do to change how companies treat their workforce. However, you can change yourself to adapt to this "new" playfield. As others below said, you have to keep your skills current. Stop working for free (no more unpaid OT), and use that time to improve yourself.

Always live below your means. Build a big rainy fund, at least 10-12 months of expenses, and keep it accessible. With the current rates, you can do a ladder CD strategy, which allows to get some extra money on interest.

If you don't have a rainy fund now, start saving while you search for another job. The search for the new job should supersede anything else, but your 40 hours at Ford. The Ford company is too unstable now to allow for anything else.

Personally, I am staying a little bit longer at Ford, due to personal reasons, but I am working on my skills. I don't have any long term plan on staying in this sinking boat. I'll try to ride out the recession, or whatever economical storm is coming soon, here at FMC before I move out.

I find it mind blowing that someone has not sued them by now. You got them firing people for health reasons, fire us for age discrimination. They throw in just enough young healthy people in the layoffs to make it look nice and legal. The bottom line now is there looking for any reason at all to dump you, if they cant find one, they will make one up.

It does not surprise me that Ford fired you over your treatable heart condition. Yea, to make it worse they just made up another reason to fire you, it’s called a pretext. A long time ago something similar happened to me when I was pregnant. At the time, I was a TA for 3 years in a row.

@ovi here again…

The point I should have made is that I told Ford management that I had a disability, a treatable heart problem, that I needed special accommodation (no travel for a couple of months) and their response was to fire me.

Do you think this is going to change? It's a yearly culling. If you're not stuck there for a pension then get out so you don't have to deal with this each year.
Even a pay cut is better than worrying about your job constantly

In reference to the comment about disability by @aph

In May, I informed my management that I needed a minor outpatient heart operation to treat a congenital rhythm problem. The problem had been gradually getting worse since we started working from home and it was starting to affect my ability to concentrate on work, or anything, really. Since it was not a life threatening condition, my cardiologist was not in a great hurry to schedule the surgery, and set the date for later this month (August). But until i got this fixed, I really couldn’t travel or go into the office or lab.

Here’s how caring and compassionate the Ford crew is. I tell them I’m sick in May, I get canned in June.

You sound so stressed. No job is worth that.

It is not worth suffering like this. You will lose your health. This is not the only company in America where you can get a job. Build your confidence by keeping your skills current. There are many better opportunities outside if you try sincerely. It is your decision if you want to stay here and suffer or get out for a better life. All the best.

Just fill it out the best you can. They have already made the decision as to who they will lay off in Sept. you would have to have a horrible performance rating to get on a PIP. If you haven’t had any negative feedback or issues, you are doing fine.

Maybe if you go on disability, it makes things easier...

Certainly if your job is gone, make sure you sue

Performance does not matter here. Just do enough not to get canned because of delivery. Beyond that, is anyone's guess.

I have a close LL6 friend told me that when it comes to layoff, LL's are in the same position as GSRs, sometimes even riskier. Sometimes, he was scared to see any emails from HR.

Make sure you have the correct site. I started putting my performance on the career site, only to find out it was the wrong one. It's frustrating (e.g. creating new sharepoint sites, performance sites, etc.).

Performance won't matter.
I was doing really well.

Hit all of my targets and more
then was let go.
