Thread regarding Ford layoffs

If offered 6 months of severance, would you quit and go now?

Basically title.

@2qkg+1o6zn2bU. That is absurd. "9 months I will leave, 6 months I will stay." If you have 20+ years in, you either are ready to move on or you are not. If 3 months is a significant factor, you aren't ready.

@OP. IDK. I survived recent cuts in my department. I am guessing I have another year before the axe comes back. Still, it is a very tempting offer.

Yes give me 9 months severance and I will leave Ford asap. If only 6 months then I will stay. That 9 months should be the minimum standard for > 20 years of service for USA 🇺🇸 employees .

If they topped off my retirement (2 years) to get me to 30, I'd go without a severance.

6 months might sound like the "gravy train" but depending on your skill sets, age and the job market, it can take several months to find something that pays as much as you were previously getting. I've been laid off 3 times over the years including from Ford in August 2022. At 64 years old as a software developer (ADAS) it took me 6 months just to find a contract job.

6 months seems a bit cheap.

According to postings on this board in the past, those let go in Canada got up to 24 month's severance.

Heard that Europe had something like that too (but no confirmation of this).

(JSNTRTO stands for Just Say No To Return To Office.)

I got let go with 9 months of severance for 30 years of service last year.

No real opinion on RTO.
Retired now, and when I was at Ford I HAD to be on site during the shut-down.

Good luck to everyone.
Yes, Ford is a slow-motion train wreck, but Billy can provide a train station.

JSNTRTO? I was VIP'd by Ford 2020. So I'm kind of involuntarily out of the loop. What does this latest Ford acronym stand for?

The JSNTRTO guy got let go. I predicted that! Not that I think RTO will save us, but if you buck against management then they will put you on the next up list.

I would voluntarily take a retirement package in October if they offered > 9 months pay and health care for > 20 years employees. But I wouldn’t for 6 months though. Ford should do what GM did and give 12 months!

I was let go at the end of June with 16 years as Ford FTE (prior contract years don't count of course), got 7 months severance and option to continue health benefits PPO for 9 months so long as I keep paying the monthly bill. Although I do not have a new job yet, I have some fully remote 'irons in the fire' and am feeling much better as the last 5-7 years have been a politically toxic and intellectually stupid wasteland the likes of the movie 'Idiocracy'. I am thankful for the prior blessings, but am SO glad to be out of the vipers den and am looking forward to being a human again.
Regards,
JSN2RTO Guy (Yup - it's really me. "Just say NO to RTO ! Just say NO to RTO !" :)
p.s. I'm glad I held out for the severance and they let me go. F Ford First ! (before they F you !)
