@njt I'm in california. there is a bucket of sick days that is separately tracked but it is NOT in addition to PTO, it's a subset of PTO. You get the same total PTO as anyone in any other state.

The reason it is tracked separately is because of "unscheduled absences" protections. If you are suddenly out without notice and you use a sick day, you have some protection from any performance management issues, whereas if you take unscheduled/sudden PTO, those can count against you.

if you are hourly, any amount of PTO, even one hour, will count as if you are in office that day. I had an admin gaming the system that way and I discovered it by cross referencing her attendance with her timecard.

If you are salaried, you can only take PTO in half day (4 hr) increments. therefore, a half day/4 hours counts as an in-office day

In SDI I’ve taken 4 hours of PTO and it counted as a swipe.

Why ask here and not ask your manager?

4 hours = 1 badge swipe/day in the office. Anything less does not count.

@DNR California and the states that mandate employees get sick days have a separate sick allowance. I heard they just get less PTO to make up for it but I'm not sure if that's true. Wells will do the bare minimum to make sure they comply with laws, they don't give a duck about us peons.

I went into the office very sick and contagious because my management says being sick isn't an excuse to not be in 3 days a week. Of course none of my colleagues are in my city so they don't care. My group is allowed no excuses to not be in 3 days a week, what a great place to work.

Don’t we use our PTO for sick time too?

if you are exempt you can only take PTO in 4 hour increments so I would say 4 hours.

now let's not forget about our 16 hours of volunteering time. id guess 4 hours of that also counts as a day in office.

If you're scheduled to be in 5 days (week in and out rotation) you have to be in at least 3.
If scheduled 3 in and 2 out, you have to be in at least 2.

I think 4 hours should be your day
