Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What are your thoughts on how Ford helps you develop your career path?

I have not had a lot of luck here at all, for years.

Ford management will decide if you have a career or a job at Ford. If you have a career, they will move you around to better high-profile jobs to give you experience and promote you every 2 to 3 years. If you have a job, you will be plugged into a position and forgotten. If you ask to be mentored, or moved to get experience you will be ignored. If you are not being groomed by management, you will probably max a GSR8; less than 3% of the GSR population make LL6. Rough rule of thumb, LL6 by 30, LL5 by 35 and LL4 by 40, if you fall behind you are just a worker with a job. That is, until you get the 15-minute meeting notice.

If you are a good experienced hire, Ford will button hole you into a position and not let you leave that position. Too valuable in position until you hit the 4th quartile of GSR8 then you are too expensive and are cut.
If you sux then Ford will pass you around from group to group until some leader either cuts you or promotes you.
If you are an FCG they want to keep you for 5 years and they hope you leave after that.

Ford provides the individual with access to all softwares and people to network, learn and grow in one's career path. You have to put in the effort. No doubt there will be roadblocks etc but it worked out for me. Hard work does not go waste. Keep trying, this is a big company and has had all resources to make things happen in reality. Present times r tough no doubt, hope this passes.

One thing I have learned the hard way over a lot of time is that no company will "develop" your career. You need to take charge of what you want in life and seek it, whether that is within Ford or outside. Exceptions are folks who are already chosen for an upwardly mobile career path.
