Mining all the stuff they put in your hybrid or EV battery emits a lot of nastiness into the air and water supply but Jen Granholm and her pals are paid well not to talk about that.

In the US 60% of electricity is generate by fossil fuels (predominantly natural gas), 20% renewable, and 20% nuclear:
