Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Lots of XOM LinkedIn Job Advertising

Anyone else find it interesting that XOM is now posting ads for general job hiring (specifically for engineers and interns)? Also seeing tons of recent interns posting happy posts saying how much they loved the experience. Very telling and feels like we are now basically having to beg people to work for XOM. Used to be hard to get hired at XOM, now I’m seeing us hire just about anyone to fill a seat while we still keep driving out talented people through the PIP head count reduction process.

1fyd+1oBCajXz you are correct. Exxonmobil is an INDIA INDIAN CORPORATION COMPLETELY. This will hopefully push them out of this country and it can't possibly happen fast enough. Zero loyalty to Americans means Americans don't want them here!

Ever notice the new hires are hied out of India, Singapore, and KL? Minimal hiring in the US. They only keep enough of the old folks to train the replacements. The more arrogant ones who thinks they are management materials will even tell you to stay out of their swim lane. Don’t care what they wreck because they only stay in a job for a year or two.

The super cringe post by interns and co-ops of "Happy to share..." and "Thank you for this wonderful experience" is not a new phenomenon and definitely not unique to XOM. It's just how cringy and awkward LinkedIn is today, you humblebrag, brown nose and kissing a-s at the same time. Talk about multitasking.

I just think the posts from interns are just more prevalent, likely pushed by management to make sure and make XOM look better than we actually are. Feels like an obvious push to overcome the negativity out there from all the PIPs and toxic work environment. Yes, an internship is likely a positive experience with great pay and low stress, but XOM is now using interns for advertising.

OP, the reality is that there isn't any hiring in the USA or any other HC10 (top 10 high cost countries). If there is it's very minimal and what XOM does is to lay off the old, experienced employees to replace them with cheap young ones with no experience. No wonder nothing technical is getting done at XOM these days. They got rid of the people with experience, the ones that could mentor the young ones and now the new hires're running around like chicken in a cage trying to find anyone that can answer their questions or point them in the right direction. Eventually even the new hires get tired of this crazy new broken culture and leave on their own. Or, even worse, are used as NSI material to protect the chosen ones. The hiring right now is in India. The number of employees in India is exploding. Some places have increased their hearcounts by ten times since the reorg. XOM's an indian company right now. Just the management committee has to be replaced by indians to make XOM a fully indian company. This is the reality we like it or not. In the USA XOM only offers internships, hires temporary contractors through third party staffing companies, or very young employees to replace the old ones or to be used for NSI purposes.

Generally and historically interns are treated extremely well and paid very well too. Some of them actually do a great job and get offered another internship or a job. It's a win for them either way, what's not to like. Job postings have always been there, even during covid, it does not mean they hire 10 people per posting. In the last couple of years we discovered how to use LinkedIn for advertising the company.

Of course internship is great, you don't have a mortgage, you don't have wife and kids.......money is good, no real work consequence. The only stress is prepare for the end of internship presentation. What not to like...5 stars.

The problem is no one w/ a real Linkedin profile dare to say anything negative to impact their own job prospects.

Not true. Hiring is very limited in the US, headcount is now a big deal. Interns experience a great summer, but they don’t see the dark side so of course they’re positive. Overall still a good company just not “with it” compared to smaller companies.
