I was told the ones laid off do get unemployment. Since they are not on strike the funds to pay them comes from the state preserving the UAW funds for longer strike periods. UAW is preserving funds to allow for longer strike.

Why should I be forced to pay union dues if I don't want to be in a union?

Unions are the bane of our society. The big corporations need to figure out a way to eliminate them entirely.

Michigan is no longer a Right To Work state. It applies to all unions except for Police.

BF and JF are playing the uaw like a fiddle. You'd think if the uaw had the upper hand, they'd strike on a scale that actually would do something. Striking final assy at MAP? LOL

Some crippling action right there folks.

The uaw is like, we want everything but look how little we are able to show our hand. If I could insert a chicken emoji here I would.

@1lfe+1oC4tSfk,

When the strike is first authorized (midnight last Thursday in this case), all of the workers who are told to walk off the job do so. At that point in time, there are many workers still at the plant who can start picketing.
Then of course, all the media and other supporters are at that time, or on Friday, most likely to join the picket line or report on the strike.

The striking workers have to all go sign up for their strike pay, usually at a union hall. In order to collect the strike pay, the union will set an arbitrary schedule for the workers to where they will need to show up at specific days of the week for set periods of time to walk the picket line.

No compensation from ford sadly and the same for GM employees who lost their jobs.

Who cares if they're paid strike pay or unemployment? The plant is down because of a strategic strike. The point is to put pressure on the company.

Are the 600 hourly ford employees or UAW folks?

@1utk Ford told the media the laid off people do not get unemployment, I don’t understand why not.

If the company lays them off, they will be eligible for unemployment. There are two bargaining units at MAP, only the paint and final side unit is on strike.

Ford and GM should fire all hourly workers until the strike is over. Hire only none union workers.

Problems solved.

Ok, I've seen enough local news coverage of the strike at MAP and it appears to be a total half -as operation. Theres like 20 or so strikers at the picket line with signs. Thats it? I thought there are hunderds / thousands of uaw workers at that plant and thats all that show up in "solidarity"?!?!?

What a joke.

They do not get paid by the union because they are not on strike.

They do not get unemployment in MI because their layoff is caused by a strike. In other states they would get unemployment.

The union is trying to preserve the strike fund but this is hurting their own employees.

What happens in this situation?
Do the striking workers get paid by the Union?
What about the laid-off workers?

The plant isn't running due to the strike. What did you expect Ford to do?
