Ah, the old "Managers don't do s**t" trope....get real, managers are paid to be baby-sitters because that's what you so-called adult employees require to get the job done. I've never heard so much whining until I became a manager. So, in addition to dealing with my boss' b.s., I have to listen to the crying from folks making 6 figures who are shocked they may have to do some work in exchange.

I'm an id--t manager. I'm nice, but useless. I've been phoning it in for years. I try to look out for my people, give career advice, but that's about all I'm capable of. My team does the real work and I'm a technician enforcing insanely stupid policies.

My banker's box is packed. I'm ready for my short walk followed by a long vacation. Any day now....

St. Louis is filled with id--t managers. There is a woman on the transition team who is a vile tw-t who knows nothing, brings nothing, knows nothing but they use her to do all the dirty cr-p to people. It’s insane

Low level managers are another kind of low lives.

Had a manager with human resource degree, he knows all the tricks in HR and is not afraid to use it.

He only hires H1B workers when no one is watching. When HR stops him, he will hire you and push you out in a few.

H1B workers always win.

Many don't have banking backgrounds & are made to feel insecure with competent workers reporting to them so they sm--k them down, and invent things their DR's did "wrong" just to feel like they are "Managers". Lots of ex. Lowes corp PMs here as mid level "Managers". They all got in through their buddies. This place isn't a hardware store. Lol.

I function 99% without help from my direct manager. She’s very nice but not knowledgeable.

My direct managers try to manage through diplomacy instead of giving direction because they have no idea what's going on and don't want to take any risk on themselves. I've started going directly to my two-up for things because even though my two-up is disconnected from what's really going on, she's at least willing to be decisive and move things forward. I've had some amazing managers here who know what's going on, are great people managers, and can make decisions (they're actually valuable), but that's not my current situation.

Side note, middle managers should be worried about their jobs. If you aren't managing people directly, and your entire job involves sitting in back-to-back meetings where you aren't making decisions or completing deliverables, then you're in a vulnerable position IMO.
