Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Scoozi, thought it was a good oil pump.

Reuters) -U.S. auto safety regulators said on Friday they are investigating about 240,000 of 2018-2021 Ford EcoSport vehicles after consumer complaints alleging oil pump failure.

The investigation was opened on September 20 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation, the NHTSA said.

It said it had received 95 complaints alleging that the oil pump may fail, resulting in a loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion.

NHTSA in June said it was investigating the No. 2 U.S. automaker's previous recall of 710,000 Explorer SUVs over power loss reports to determine if a fix implemented by Ford was adequate.

Ford did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

One of the fundamental things you learn in machine design is that rubber and oil don't mix. I was stymied after the 1.0 L Ecoboost won several awards when it debuted; then looking at the CAD and seeing the belt in the oil bath. The I Do Cars site had a teardown of one and guess what, the belt was coming apart. Sad these designs get approved.

Yeah yeah yeah....but the program was green for gpds timing. That's what mattered and matters.

Ford engineers are best at designing Stupid stuff like that.

Thí is why Ford recalls every vehicles that they make.

I saw a tear down on youtube... OMG... why would you ever put a belt in oil...

The tool who signed off on that design is probably long gone.

If this is the 1.0L eco boost, there is video on YouTube of the fabric timing belt which deteriorates, and engine loses timing between crank and valve train. Bits and pieces of belt and belt guide, and other components, end up in the oil pump pickup, blocking oil from being taken in. Oil starved engine seizes, or throws a rod.

Wonderful.
