Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

New hires are bad for a reason

I can't be the only one who's noticed the drop in quality of new hires. And I can't be the only one who's not surprised. We're trying to skimp on salaries when hiring and still hoping to attract top-notch candidates. That's not how things work, though. I'm tired of trying to explain things to people who are not interested or who will be gone in a few months. I'm wasting my time and I already have too much on my plate. This needs to change or people like me will start to walk away as well - and then Citi is screwed.

It su-ks when people horde information or are inconvenienced by questions. It sounds like you would rather someone sc--w things up so you can talk about them. Who knows who will be laid off. It could be anyone including you. This is supposed to be a place for layoff information and not a new hire crab session. We're all Citi employees facing a challenging situation right now. I am sure there are other forums to vent about your new hire situation.

Ah. The OP is a person who has forgotten what it was like to be new on the job. I am not saying all new hires rock stars. However, you are not helping the situation. On the other hand, there are quite a few seasoned worker that su-k too. Additionally, there are a few awesome people who like helping people and work for the greater good.

The lack of specific information creates rumors and uncertainty. There have been 7-8 townhalls and nothing was said except that layoffs are coming within 6 months. Workers want to know because they have to make plans and pay bills. Best advice is update your resume.

Thats incorrect
New hires are getting paid more than existing experienced staff even at same levels

Meh... citi has always hired the leftovers from other firms, hence the reason they are in this mess in the first place. If it wasnt for the bailouts in 2008 this place wouldnt even exists at this point. This bank is basically just a government subsidized entity at this point. At least wall street gets it as the stock price is at record lows.
