Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I was let go in August

I was let go in August.
Is it normal behavior? Anybody in the same boat?

  1. Instead of being sad I’m super happy elated and celebrating.
  2. I am not searching any jobs, instead enjoying life, relaxing and spending day with family and in gym.
  3. I am not worried about future or gap in the resume.
  4. Some days I try and look for the job in LinkedIn but it feels like I don’t know anything anymore. Feels like a failure, I think even if I apply I won’t be shortlisted. The search seems endless.
  5. Some days I don’t want to put the efforts to get associated with the new company, people. I will have to restart the rapport building, learning curve etc etc.
  6. I have never felt so disassociated with technology but it’s different after the layoff, I don’t want to upskill or know what’s happening. I want to remain in a shell.

Some days I don’t want to do anything, I may turn a lazy b-m with this approach and will never be able to get a job.

Fellows sailing in the same ship, please let me know how you kept yourself motivated to search the job, upskill yourself

I was in the same boat. No companies were replying to anything until after Labor Day. I just enjoyed the end of the summer. I hate applying blindly online. I feel like there are so many people job searching right now the odds were against me. I also saw a stat that only 6% of new hires at fortune 100 companies were white after George Floyd. I’ll never know if I was affected by that. I worked my network and had a couple different opportunities. I have a job now. Much less bullsh-t.

There's no "winning against your ex-boss" if in a support role- that is just ego talking. Your ex-boss will eventually be found out. I recall mine, an inexperienced, ex-Apple manager, trotting out the same tired clichés as his unqualified predecessors. So many of their underlings buffered with titles like Workflow Manager and Quality Lead / Coach inhabiting a world of meaningless stats without one original thought in their heads. From director level down, all demanding you take "one more case" from the queue . Dell is a toxic environment best avoided. It's totally understandable why anyone would not wish to work in IT again post-Dell / EMC.

I was let go in the February round with many years with the combined companies Dell being the last. Received my severance and took off 3 months then gained employment outside the Tech field doing back end office work. Have new and better insurance and do not miss the Dell world that it turned into. I miss the work and customers and my brothers and sisters on the job however not the Dell world.

I was a high performer however was a resistor and pushed back on excessive OT for salary employees that now performed break fix duties that was not really legal.

I was against the mandates and had to write a letter explaining my personal beliefs to such things. I was let go with 3 other work mates that had the same stand so it was obvious that when the time comes if you do not conform you will get terminated.

I hope society will not turn into this as well however it looks as if that will be the case in the next 25 years.

What you are experiencing is normal. Also depends how long you were at one company. The longer you spent at one company the harder it is to snap into gear.

But know this. Any pain and discomfort you feel now will eventually manifest itself into something better for you. You actually have meaningful direction and goals.

Good for you. There is much more to life than this place. I was hoping to be let go but alas it looks like I am going to survive.

if you dont fight for your future, you let your ex-boss win by laying you off. It would justify whatever cr-p argument your ex-boss put forth to his mgmt, to justify you being laid off.
Look at what your gained towards your resume, by Dell's employment . Think of time spent at Dell, as purpose served.
