Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Volunteers

Who is volunteering at the Part Depots? Does Ford already know the UAWs next move? Very interesting the request for volunteers that came out yesterday. Count me out.

That’s what happens when you start out at ford. Soft skills deteriorate nothing. Like a ford focus transmission at 15k miles

@1edf+1oPrOm9T Your son's first job out of college paid 90k? That seems quite high.

I think most are "buckling down and saving" just to pay off student loans in their first 5 years. Working in the "sla-ghter houses" during the summer doesn't do much when tuition is 16k (and then you have books/living expenses on top of that).

@1rtt You are smoking some good stuff if you think anything the union gets will trickle down to salary. We're more likely to get cut due to the UAW contract than get a 20% increase.

@1cab
But you neglected to develop any class, humility, or personality. Yikes!

@1kfv+1oPrOm9 poor you. Step out of victimhood and make better choices going forward.

Life for most of the boomers wasn’t as grand as you think. Regular joe boomers worked to pay for college. Hard summers in the sla-ghter houses / plants / construction to pay for college. Spring break and winter break, also spent working. There were no luxuries. It was school and work. Oh and let’s not forget the little thing called Vietnam, that was oh so pleasant.

Let’s do a little math shall we. My first professional job out of college paid 30K. First house cost 90K. My sons first professional job out of college paid 90K. His first house cost 320K. And his first house was much larger and more luxurious than my first house. See the pattern here? Wage to house price ? Buckle down and do some serious saving and pay cash for a starter house in under 5 years. Drive a beater until you can pay cash for a nicer car. Think for yourself and don’t blame others for your life choices.

In general, every generation has it better than the one before; yet every generation complains about other generations. My parents didn’t have electricity or indoor plumbing while growing up in the rural Midwest. Pretty much the entire way of life was making sure you had enough food and fuel put up to survive the winter. But their life was easier than my grandparents. We found the bill of sale for my grandparents farm in 1920 $28 an acre. Just land, no house. They built a dugout and lived in that until they could afford to build a house many years later.

How does this work anyway?

Is the volunteering site in metro Detroit area? How many hours do we expect to work onsite?

How do I manage to tell my PL? I would assume any PL not want their people to do this, but it looks like Ford really needs it.

Anyone who does this is a scab and should be ridiculed for it. I will not cross the picket line. I am salary but in solidarity with the union. Decline it since whatever the union gets will trickle down to salary. Salary needs the 20-30 % pay increase and cola back.

Wooo @dep+1oPrOm9T spot on. No other generation has had it as bad as boomers. Yall had to struggle and buy that house for 100k on a single income.

I forgot you had to find a job during the worst job market since the Great Depression fresh out of college while in massive amounts of debt because the generation above you said you were worthless without a college degree. Oh wait that was millennials.

Sit on your thumb bud

Some of us “voluntold”. Got family issues and spent hours watching stupid videos. Now I am heading to Sacramento if the UAW decides to pitch a fit tomorrow. Thanks Ford for treating me like family.
