I Stan With BIPOC

I agree with minority and woman hiring and promoting at Fidelity. We all want people to succeed.

BUT... The push to have under represented minorities and women is putting a lot of low talent people into roles that are above their heads. Everyone who has to work for them knows this is true.

For example, a female 'automates' a procedure that requires around 20 steps and a manual to follow to make work. Her 'automation' requires some programming tweaks each month. For example, each new month of data requires some additional work so it knows what to do with the new date elements. She gets celebrated and groomed for promotion. A total midwit doing below average work does the happy dance while everyone who works with her knows that her work is below average. I can automate a solution that takes no additional programming steps as it was designed to integrate new data elements into the data flow. I just get more work handed to me. No promotion.

Another example. A black man I worked with, who I think is a hard worker and produces end work that is reliably accurate, got promoted over more deserving candidates recently (not me, btw, I didn't apply). Here's the thing... The management he works for are other less than stellar BIPOC who have no clue about data management and structure. He structures all his data, which is a lot actually, horizontally instead of vertically in Excel. Everything requires loads of work whenever anything new is added. Formulas are all over the place. The monthly workload gets heavier as new elements are always needed and added each month. He just got promoted to director... A role he is wholly unsuited for.

The double standards are ridiculous and it is all over Fidelity. This trend needs to be reversed or it will definitely turn Fidelity into a ghost ship.

The only thing I disagree with is that all who took the VBO were dead wood. We did lose some valuable people, along with some dead wood.

I agree, these VBOers are jealous that we are still collecting checks, bonuses, profit sharing, shares, benefits etc. Why would anyone want to give that up?? I don’t want the VBO at all. The firm had been making so much money after cleaning up all the dead wood. Bye bye dead wood.

Let's exchange I give you the TX and you the VBO?
The VBO could be the Vested Benefit Obligation, that would make sense why the VBOtaker have such fetish on that.(Common Fidelity get the IP that the guy used today here and the used in Fidelity and give this for the man he deserves in all senses).

The other option would be virtual based office. That would make sense if the VBOTaker was making threatening for someone here, maybe a remote worker.

They cleaned a bit here, but you know this is internet. We can get all the historic of this page.

I first also thought on the same about the title. Then came to my mind two options.
This title os not a mistake. Is a message. But this message was predicted some time ago in a report and the two listeners are seeing this right now. But one don't know about the other. So, that means that one of them don't did their jobs as well.
The second is one true persons saying that. And for that comes your answer. Now if even the best persons defending a good cause can sound elitist. So who is safe?

Some people are making an extra effort to your become able to communicate with them not the opposite. They are doing 80% of the communication for a lot of people here...

We don't write software for the machines as well. We write for humans. But in order to do that you need technical skills. There's no escape.

This agile mindset is beautiful and is what made me "converted" to agile. But in reality, this person will be responsible for many technical implications.
In fact, everybody can learn the skills missing, but you should not be learning all the skills on the fly.
Just be careful, is easy to have "ability to influence" when you don't need to have hands-on. You can sell any BS when you have no clue about the subject.

As a black person working at Fidelity, I can tell you that there is very little preference for minorities here, except perhaps in entry-level hiring, because Fidelity is ashamed of its glaring lack of diversity.

As for promotions generally, hiring managers promote those whom they identify with, which advantages whites. The head of my business unit praises younger white men and gives them opportunities that other people don't get. He does this because he sees himself in them, a younger version of himself. It's not necessarily that they are better at delivering work. Black people are also underpaid here—again, because white managers don't advocate for black workers like they do for whites.

As for your statement about the black man promoted to director, perhaps he is incompetent. But perhaps you are too narrow-minded to consider other skills he may possess, such as people skills and the ability to influence others without authority. Knowing how to structure Excel sheets is rarely a crucial skill for leaders. I have seen white directors at Fidelity who don't even know how to use the video conferencing software or post images on a PowerPoint.
