Thread regarding Ford layoffs

In the late 90s/early 2000s, we had a modular engine family, modular fuel pump, and perhaps a few more modular items.

We were great then, maybe we just need "modularity" and we will get past this losing streak and be back in the game?

"Modular" requires a physical FIXED external interface. This is not what I had seen in the past. If the interface is not fixed, there is no saving in vehicle development and there is no assurance that the module can survive.

Honestly, for POEE, all I need is to have an engine gasket that lasts 250k miles and a water bump that can be replaced for $500. I don't need dual clutch or 10 spd. I will pay my due at the pump.

Oh, to be modular again. Ford walked with a certain leaf spring in it's step back then.
