Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

A Layoff Too Far?

Was the Transformation that has broken Chevron? People reminisce about the good days before the times now. Did MW ask for one too many layoffs and got more than he expected in the dysfunction thats going on now? Will more layoffs be the companies cure for the problems?

8dvp: At least CPDEP focused on major decision gates, unlike Agile which focuses on micro management (“sprints”) lead by the id--ts. If a micro management meeting focus is the “modern way” and expert lead progression to a logical decision is “old school”, then he-l yes I am for a roll back … 100%!

It's always the cure for upper management. And the cuts will be at the lower PSGs because management is never wrong. The problem is that the rest of us didn't execute their orders correctly.

@3nnd - “Goodbye Agile”

And use what, CPDEP? Gee, I can’t wait to go back to the waterfall approach of managing projects from the 70’s and 80’s, having DE’s and DRB’s. I’m dusting off Phase 1-5 notebooks right now.

OP, yes, all of the above. History will show that MW laid off an entire generation without capturing any of their knowledge or experience.

If we didn't have Bain, McKinsey, and BCG hanging around Chevron, we could save quite a few jobs.

IT is about 200 million over budget. Goodbye Agile.

Yes more layoffs might be part of the cure, if restricted to grades 26 & above, and associated with a major flattering of the organization structure. With only a quarter of the current management structure, maybe the “Doers” can get something done!

Stupidity, unaccountability, placement and promotion of unqualified personnel (staff and management alike), all these things are cause and effect examples of what has gotten Chevron to where it is today. These things MUST change, else there will be no saving the company.

The less employees you have the higher the profits and executive bonuses. MW lives for the here and now not the future.

Death taxes and layoffs are inevitabilities. Gotta cull the herd for long term viability

Yeah renewal was MKWs wet dream. Entire company layoff. It set us back years, but hey we have agile now so we are great. At least that is what the consultants we hire tell us...
