Got the ax after 25 years of service due to remote status and live in non hub location.
I know it’s just business and to not take personal. But still feels like a kn--e in the back.

I’m still astounded that people go above snd beyond and feel any loyalty to an employer. Get in, get out, get paid. Be loyal to your family, friends and communities. Never to a job. Ever notice the people that climb the corporate ladder move companies all the time?

Gee I get the feeling that they're doing everything they can to move everything to Hudson Yards as Scharf LARPs as a big time Wall Street guy.

44 years is an incredible run though. Hardly anyone in the developed world in this century gets 44 years with the same company, and to make it all the way to age 65 plus your 14 months of layoff pay (60 days notice + 12 months severance) is fantastic in the grand scheme of things. Most of us could only dream of being so lucky.
SF/Bay Area is NOT a WF hub. It may be a Technology hub but note that Tech only represented 10% of WF’s workforce, so yeah, not a hub…despite the fact that HQ and a ton of employees are there.
Further, the distance between Concord and SF key offices is < 40 miles, so the powers that be can totally close Concord down and demand that everyone impacted commute into SF.
My position was to assist retail branches on-site and be available via bank phone at all times. 44 years of dedicated service. Position eliminated at age 65. Fortunately, A year of severance allowed me to collect social security at my full retirement age. Sad that severance pay was the only valuable benefit of working for Wells Fargo.
I have a few remote employees and the direction driven from my manager has been to begin planning for their succession and manage them out. It’s real folks start planning so that you are not caught off guard.
I know a person that just got axed in HR because of the same reason. They were remote their entire career, Well before COVID. What a joke.

They can't make you go to SF if you're 40+ miles away from SF office. Severance time, baby!
333 Market will be the new HQ. There wouldn't be enough space there to accommodate Concord people, plus Concord is much cheaper. You aren't putting some random staff person in $100/sf space.
Based on everything I have heard, Concord CA site is definitely going away as the lease in ending soon. They will likely make us all go to San Francisco.
Re: Bay Area hubs:
In addition to 333 Market in SF (not sure about 420 long term), Concord is a hub, too, I think.
If they made all Concord staff go to SF, that's a lot of severance packages (since distance exceeds 40 miles for many).
The lack of transparency about hubs is intentional. Part of sadistic strategy to wear people down from being in the dark/worrying and quit so WF can avoid severance.
If management is making our lives miserable, let’s return the favor. There are more of us than them.

Sounds like the company just wants you to quit so they don't have to pay you severance. That's why they are making life so hard on all of us - so people get fed up and leave on their own without severance.
OP - I’m sorry this is happening to you. I, like many others, am in the same boat. 27 years here, hired as remote, non-hub. Just waiting for the axe to drop. It serves no purpose for me to be here. I have been told that I’ll be laid off but they “don’t know” when that’s going to happen. That’s bllsht. SOMEBODY knows, so why don’t they share that with those of us who are going to be affected so we can plan accordingly?
BTW, I’m in HR and my job is to tell prospective employees how great it is here. Seriously?? I’m 65 so where am I supposed to go? Fortunately, I can retire, but wish it would have been on my own terms. For others, who are my age and need to work a couple more years, it’s not a great scenario.
Another example of the Wells Fargo toxic shitshow circus dumpster fire. All while making billions each quarter. How will it end when there are no good paying jobs to support the new version of capitalism and we have to bow to India and China? God Bless.

Remote + 20 years and feeling like a sitting duck waiting for it,
which doesn’t benefit me or WF. I have prepared others who can do my work if needed - if it doesn’t get sent to India.
SF is a hub. 333 and 420. 333 is getting a cafeteria and a lounge.
OP, what business group were you in?
They will cut all the remotes, and then the non-hubs, and then the hubs. HY and I&P are all that is safe in the long run.
I hope they cut all remotes. Not because I feel you should be cut (I was hired on as remote) but so they isht or get off the pot. All these threats of culling if you don’t RTO. Do it already or STFU wells leadership.
What office in Bay Area is a hub? I work in Bay Area, too. The job market for many is dismal rn.

I got it 2 weeks ago. CA Bay Area in a hub and 30plus years with wells. Takes some time getting used to the idea.

Wishing you the best in finding something else that is less stress and where you feel valued, that is not WF. There is life after this place, many of us have found it in the last few years and have moved on. Hang in there.
