Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Any word on the HCL contract coming up

Has anybody heard any word on the HCL contract coming up for the helpdesk? I believe the contract was for 3 years this October will be 3 years.

I don't currently work in the environment but some of my former coworkers do. There is a small continent of pre-HCL staff that were retained (some hired months after layoff) which could be brought back or to another contract house. Obviously this is ministry dependent as I understand some have no staff, others have half a dozen. They would potentially need to send people to other ministries to train. As for being stuck with HCL, I wouldn't say lack of staff would do that, money might though. As I understand it things are actually getting worse over time which reduces the odds of renewal.

Yeah this is different though. With CSC they had on-site people. There's no one on-site anymore to insource outside of Field Services. I don't see HCL doing any sort of knowledge transfer if Ascension were to decide to insource. They'd have to hire entire teams new, and there wouldn't be anyone to train them in anything. I truly believe Ascension might be stuck with HCL.

They did it before at least once, I wouldn't put it past them (CSC -> Insource -> HCL.) CSC got the better of them contractually, it was supposed to not go down that way this time.

Ascension is kinda stuck with HCL. Switching back to onshore support OR to another offshore DCO company would be even more painful than keeping HCL. I work for another company in IT and they brought in a different offshore DCO company and they are no better than HCL. They all over promise and under deliver and you don't know it until it's too late. I will say that they are very nice people to work with but incompetent. Everything is "out of scope" which I don't understand. If I need it done and tell you to do it, then do it...

I haven’t heard anything but wanted to rant a bit: I work at Ascension through HCL and I feel so bad for the people who got laid off. Its heartbreaking to see such excellent IT teams being replaced with horribly incompetent offshore teams. Your leadership has failed you big time. What I learned from this is that patient care, customer care all that does not matter at all, the only thing that matters is money.
